Lauren Chen (1:01)

September of 2024, the FBI raided my house. Armed agents, they had the bulletproof vest, they got the big van and this was on a Wednesday, like seven in the morning, so all of my neighbors, what the heck is happening? There was then a press release that same day where the attorney general at the time, Merrick Garland, accused my company of basically being Russian propaganda, trying to subvert the election, sow dissent and all of that. I was also pregnant at the point, I was about four months pregnant when the FBI showed up at my house.

Through it all, we were asking our lawyer, what are they even accusing us of? Are the accusations even if they were true but they're not, but is that even illegal? He was like, you don't really want to find out basically.

Sean Kelly (1:52)

Okay, guys, got Lauren here on the show. Gonna spill the tea today, aren't we?

Lauren Chen (1:56)

For sure. I mean, you just asked, what do you want to talk about? I don't even know where to start.

Sean Kelly (1:59)

There's so much to talk about. You got some built up anger, right?

Lauren Chen (2:02)

I do. I have like trauma, as the kid said.

Sean Kelly (2:06)

Let's let it out.

Lauren Chen (2:07)

Yeah, well, I mean, I guess thank you for having me for sure, but I'm a, I guess streamer is how I identify at the moment. I got kicked off of YouTube, so I'm trying the streaming thing. I'm 500 years older than everybody else who does it, but it's been interesting.

Sean Kelly (2:22)

Yeah, YouTube has been unfriendly lately to certain creators. Oh, definitely. Jake Shields just got demonetized. Yeah, they're pretty strict.

Lauren Chen (2:29)

No, for sure. And I had been on the platform for almost eight years. We had a strike here and there for pretty BS stuff, if you ask me. But yeah, when that whole scandal and investigation into us started, basically what I think happened is that there were a lot of news outlets that went to YouTube. How, why is she still on your platform? Do you support foreign interference trying to undermine the presidential election? Like basically these loaded questions. And I think they kind of just caved to the pressure. We're like, all right, it's easier to just get rid of all those channels. Now, even though everything's closed, no charges against me ever, not just drop, but like none, let alone a conviction.

I just still don't have a channel. So it's really hard to get in touch with an actual person at YouTube.

Sean Kelly (3:15)

I still can't too, to be honest.

Lauren Chen (3:16)

Right, no, it's crazy. And there was this one kind of YouTube manager representative that is in contact with a lot of the right-wing political people who I met years and years ago. I randomly tried to email her. I was like, do you even still work at YouTube? If you do, I would like my channel back. I've never heard anything, but I'm not the type of person who has a problem double texting, triple or quadruple texting. So I'm kind of just hoping that my ability to be annoying will be greater than their ability to ignore me.

Sean Kelly (3:46)

It's hard to get in touch with people on any platform, even Facebook, Instagram, YouTube.

Lauren Chen (3:50)

I've liked Kick a lot. They're really responsive. They seem to actually care, try to help you. So that's nice. And obviously they're a streaming platform.

They've basically been the most responsive.

Sean Kelly (4:02)

That makes sense, because they're newer, they're edgier, right? Kick and rumble. That makes sense. But the older legacy ones, like Twitch, YouTube.
