Lake Ontario becomes a political flashpoint

Schools in the South tend to begin earlier, but for the Midwest and other places, back to school is officially the day after Labor Day. Should that change to a more cohesive national plan? Here's Adam and Jordana in Minneapolis.

Well, I just I don't know if the school, I think school districts should be able to start whenever they want.

And I don't think and I get the reasonings behind the people. And by the way, most people so far voted at the fair, overwhelming yes, until after Labor Day. I don't get so exercised about it. If a school district wants to start before Labor Day, I say let them do it.

But somebody did make a really good point. A gentleman came up and said, the kids should be able to have a job until Labor Day. And I thought that, wow, I wonder how much of the labor at the fair are school aged kids and they're making some money and helping out the booths at the fair. So I feel like I need to know a little bit more.

The people who work out here or have a business at the fair, I would guess 100% of them say no after Labor Day because they rely on a lot of high school kids that do that. And again, if those are school districts who say, yeah, our kids, a number of our kids have those jobs, so we decide to start after Labor Day, fine, that's great. But if a school district, that's not an issue for us, so we want to start before Labor Day. And by the way, then end earlier in the year, I think that's their choice to do it. And zero problem with that.

I think you guys are out of touch. I'm with the overwhelming majority that say summer is sacred and we should squeeze every last drop out of it, including the state fair and one more lake weekend, and those kids can wait. Childhood's too important, school can wait until after Labor Day. And clearly, I'm in the majority here out of the state fair.

Buffalo Public Schools go back Thursday and then a whole bunch more go back next week after Labor Day.

Well, I guess if you're a kid in one of the districts, you're thankful that if you're going back next week instead of this week, could have a whole week earlier in school. I think it's been kind of confusing with how late Labor Day is this year.

I got, because all my, so Wing Fest was yesterday, we were out there. I had a fancy football draft yesterday that I usually have, the Sunday night before Labor Day. And I'm thinking like, all right, now tomorrow off of work. And it's like you get in that Labor Day mindset. You're doing all the normal things because it's right before September. But nope.

President Trump is offering Canadian firms a way to avoid US tariffs.

The president posting on social media let all Canadian companies that are doing business with America move to the United States immediately. Then he wrote, there are no tariffs. Calling Canada one of the worst trade offenders, the president continued, I don't want Canadian cars, I don't want Canadian parts, I don't want Canadian anything. They've been ripping us off for decades and it's going to stop. The president imposed 50% tariffs on $20 billion of Canadian goods earlier this month. Canada is now preparing retaliatory tariffs on American steel and dairy products a week from now.

Okay, well on Google Maps, they've updated changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America, reflecting the recent executive order declaring the name change. Google says US users will see Lake America, and users in Canada will see Lake Ontario, and then both names will appear for everybody else.
