Today is October 6th. Okay, big news out of New York last night. Alexis Lafrenière went off with a hat trick as the Rangers beat the Islanders 5-2. That's four wins in a row for the Rangers, and a nice turnaround after that rough start.

Then there's Oliver Bjorkstrand, who netted two goals, including one on the team's very first shot. That had to feel good, especially since he's getting settled in with his new squad. They're definitely finding their rhythm at home again.

Mika Zibanejad had three assists in the game, showing just how important he is to the lineup. And Igor Shesterkin managed a solid performance in net with 17 saves, though his point streak just got snapped. It's all about that team chemistry, right? On the Islanders side, Bo Horvat and rookie Calum Ritchie found the net, but it wasn't enough to keep up. Semyon Varlamov led in three goals on 22 shots in his return after a long layoff. That's got to be tough after being out for so long.

Looking ahead, the Islanders are set to host the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday, while the Rangers are gearing up to face the Washington Capitals on Friday night. Both teams are looking to build on their recent performances, so it should be an interesting matchup. New York Rangers News Today, powered by AI bringing you what matters on the field and beyond.
