The Hammer and Nigel Show, I'm Nigel, that's Hammer, 33 to 30, final score, the Colts lose in overtime to the Kansas City Chiefs on the road. Hammer, is there such a thing as a moral victory in your book when we're talking about this Colts team and how they played versus the last game, the first game they played?

Hammer (0:18)

Here's what happened to my house last night, Nig.

Overtime was taking place and the Colts had a ball. I had an intruder, an armed intruder, kicked down my front door and threatened to blow my brains out and steal everything.

Nigel (0:31)

Goodness.

Hammer (0:31)

But then he saw the play calls the Colts had in the red zone and shot himself in the head instead.

Nigel (0:36)

Oh my God.

Hammer (0:38)

Kevin Bowen from 107.5, The Fan, The Morning Show Joins SKB. How the heck are you?

Nigel (0:43)

SKB.

Kevin Bowen (0:44)

Oh boy. Yeah. Moral victories. We're running now nine game losing streak. Oh boy.

Nigel (0:50)

No such thing. No such thing.

Kevin Bowen (0:53)

I think Morin agreed to draw the window.

Hammer (0:54)

Yeah. The Home Invader said, I've seen enough and shot himself right there in front of my television last night. All right. So let's get into the overtime, okay? Because offensively, the Colts were pretty good last night. They get a gift. What I think is a gift of a reversal on the Treadwell catch deep in the territory, and then two straight plays.

Basically, handoffs up the middle, which leaves you at third and eight, and then that was an incomplete. I did not love that play calling KB, and I don't think I was the only one.

Kevin Bowen (1:32)

Yeah, I think there's a totally valid gripe with that. You know, when you look at that situation too, Shane Stike can explain it a little bit afterwards. He brought up the clock and wanting to kind of use Johnson Taylor to try and eat some of that clock, or end the game with the ball in Taylor's hands.

And to me, it's like the clock doesn't matter in overtime at that point. Like Kansas City's already had the ball. They kicked the field goal. At that point, if you score a touchdown, you win, period. Like it doesn't matter if there's any time left on the clock or not there. So again, I was confused by that. I mean, Taylor was having a fine night. I don't want to act like he was having like, you know, a Jonathan Taylor vintage night by any means.

And then once you get into, you know, once you lose yards on first down, then to run it again on second down, it just, yeah, it made little to no sense. I really have no issue with how he handled the coin toss and wanting to kick. There was a reason why Patrick Holmes was trying to get the ball second there if you saw the coin toss interaction between him and Cam Bynum. So I really have no issue with that. It's more of just that general play con. And honestly, guys, it kind of sums up the spiking era. You know, there's a lot of things about last night you like. Offensively, you know, score 27 points in regulation, hostile environment, all of it. But at the end of the day, the head coach hat is what matters. The head coach hat is now nine straight losses for this team, the longest streak in the NFL.

Hammer (2:50)

And the thing that stings the most is that Stiken's supposed to be this offensive genius, this offensive guru. That's why he was brought in. He was creative. You know, he put together the Phillies special. And then when you've got a chance to go into one of the most hostile environments in the NFL, you get super, I mean, super conservative. Mike Pence thought that play calling was conservative last night down in the red zone, KB.

Kevin Bowen (3:16)

Yeah. And you know, I went back and watched that sequence too. Like if you go back and look at the first down play, I mean, there are a million Kansas City dudes near the line of scrimmage. I think there were nine guys total in the box there. And so, you know, everything that you would allow Daniel Jones to do with the line of scrimmage, I think would allow for him to check out of that situation. And yet you didn't do it. And then again, you kind of double down on second down. And by that point, you know, third and 12 against that defense, I mean, that's a disastrous situation there. So I didn't get again. I didn't get that explanation when he was talking a little bit about the clock and everything.
