Hello, and welcome to Connected, episode 622

It's made possible by our sponsors, Scribe and Century. I am your annual chairman, Stephen Hackett, and I have the pleasure of being joined by Myke Hurley.

Myke Hurley (0:23)

Hello, it's me, and we also both have the pleasure of being joined by the keynote chairman himself, Federico Viticci. Federico, do you have any middle names?

Federico Viticci (0:32)

We've talked about this before many, many years ago.

Stephen Hackett (0:35)

I'm sure.

Federico Viticci (0:36)

I do. They're kind of embarrassing.

Myke Hurley (0:39)

What are they?

Federico Viticci (0:40)

Well, they're after they were. So middle names are not really important in Italy, right? You just register them when your child is born.

They were chosen after my grandfather. It's Dante and Livio.

Myke Hurley (1:01)

Livio?

Federico Viticci (1:02)

Yes.

Myke Hurley (1:03)

Dante is pretty cool, though. I don't know why you're embarrassed about that.

Federico Viticci (1:06)

Yeah, it's pretty sick. I don't know. Nobody's called Dante anymore.

Myke Hurley (1:13)

Incredibly, Kate in the Discord wrote Dante.

Federico Viticci (1:17)

Remembered, yes.

Myke Hurley (1:20)

I know this because I'm also a podcast listener, that I am very aware of things and remember things about the podcast hosts that I listen to, but I also don't know how me as the podcaster cannot remember the things that the listeners can remember. It's incredible, isn't it?

Stephen Hackett (1:40)

Yeah, it's very difficult. Speaking of things that are difficult, I have a quick story before follow up.

And I just wanted to put it here instead of later, because I want to get your like rawest reactions.

Myke Hurley (1:54)

So embarrassing.

Stephen Hackett (1:56)

I have a high school daughter and homecoming is coming up. Big fall dance. She's going to go and she's going to go to a party afterwards with some friends. She was telling us about this, asking if she could go and they have a theme for the party.

It's a retro party.

Federico Viticci (2:14)

I love where this is going, okay.

Stephen Hackett (2:17)

The year that they picked to dress up for and to remember is the year 2016

Federico Viticci (2:24)

What?

Myke Hurley (2:27)

10 years ago. Why would you do this?

Federico Viticci (2:29)

What?

Stephen Hackett (2:30)

Yeah.

Federico Viticci (2:31)

That's not a year to remember. It's like yesterday.

Stephen Hackett (2:34)

I, that's what I said. And then I asked, what, what does 2016 mean? Like, what do you, and what?

Federico Viticci (2:44)

They were like, ah, they're good old days. Yeah, that's right.

Stephen Hackett (2:47)

But their view of 2016 is basically how I think about like 2008 or nine. It's like skinny jeans and, you know, basically described like sort of emo guys with bags kind of scene, which I mean, some of us were still-

Myke Hurley (3:06)

Emo guys with bags? What does that mean?

Stephen Hackett (3:08)

You know what I mean?

Federico Viticci (3:08)

Like we were-

Myke Hurley (3:09)

No, I don't know what you mean.

Stephen Hackett (3:11)

Bags?

Federico Viticci (3:11)

Like bags to wear? Like bags under their eyes?

Stephen Hackett (3:14)

Like, you know, we all had like, you know, man purses.

Federico Viticci (3:18)

Maybe just me. What?

Stephen Hackett (3:20)

Just me?

Myke Hurley (3:20)

What?

Federico Viticci (3:21)

What were emo guys like in America?

Myke Hurley (3:24)

I don't remember having like a bag face.

Stephen Hackett (3:27)

Okay. Well, I did.

Myke Hurley (3:29)

Have you ever left your bag face? I think you're still very much in your bag.

Stephen Hackett (3:32)

I do love a good bag.

Federico Viticci (3:33)

Emo with bags. I'm just Googling it.

Stephen Hackett (3:36)

But, man.

Federico Viticci (3:37)

Oh, I see what you mean.

I see what you mean. Okay. Like with, hmm.

Myke Hurley (3:44)

Let me Google it too. Emo guys with bags.

Federico Viticci (3:47)

Yeah. You gotta Google emo guys.

Stephen Hackett (3:49)

I'm gonna see if I can find a picture of myself.

Myke Hurley (3:52)

I mean, this is just emo guys with bags. This doesn't particularly suggest to me any kind of trend. It's just like.

Stephen Hackett (3:58)

I think it, maybe it was just me and my sad friends, but the 2016 part, forget what they think 2016 was, but man, I have never turned to dust more quickly in a conversation. Just absolutely brutal.

Myke Hurley (4:17)

It doesn't, it just, I don't know. I'm surprised that the party would be a year that they were alive in.

Stephen Hackett (4:28)

Yeah.

Myke Hurley (4:29)

I would figure you would go to a time that you just didn't know.
