All right, what's up, everybody? Welcome to the party. It is Thursday, July 9th, 2026 This is episode 1170, I believe he says, questioningly, the easiest way is for me to go check the CPE page, which is always dope. Episode 1170 of your Simply Cyber Daily Cyber Threat Brief podcast, and I'll make it quick, clean and simple for everybody in chat. You want to level up like an absolute boss in the cyber security industry, you're going to have to stay current on what the heck's going on. We do that every single weekday morning. You're here right now or you're watching on replay. So get your coffee, get comfortable, because we're about to rip the lid off the top of this mother trucker.
All right, what's up, everybody? Good morning, I hope you're doing well today. Happy birthday, TRL, LDECTIC memory? I'm not quite sure how to say it, but super pumped you have a birthday today. And you're choosing to spend it with the Simply Cyber community as you get started on this lovely Thursday morning. Guys, welcome to the Daily Cyber Threat Brief. We are coming to you live from the New England studio. Your host, Dr. Gerald Auger. Over the next hour, we're gonna go through eight top cyber stories of the day as we do every single day. And I'm gonna unpack these things and just dive deep. I'm gonna put on a snorkel kit and do like a 1960s, you know, the beach movies vibe that was going on for like a hot minute there, like this guy. We're gonna be doing that with these news stories. I'll give you the headline. I'll give you the surface level takeaway. And then we are going to deep six down into the Marianas Trench of lessons learned with each of these stories. And I'm gonna use my 20 plus years of experience to mine out value for you. So you can be an absolute boss at work. Guys, I'm telling you right now, be the CEO of you, use this information, use this network of Simply Cyber community members and absolutely lean into it. I'm telling you, this is what it's all about.
Now, every single episode of the Daily Cyber Threat Brief is worth half a CPE. Listen, we go through this story, this story, this story, this story, this story, this story. We're gonna go through so many stories that I want you to get credit for, basically, an instructor-led webinar. So it's very easy to take advantage of this. Drop an exclamation point, CPE Charlie Papa Echo into chat right now, and the nightbot, the AI bots will respond to you accordingly, and they'll give you a link to the CPE page. Once you're on the CPE page, which you can see here on stream, if you're listening on audio only, what's up people on Spotify and Apple Podcasts? Happy you're here with us. Go to cyberthreatbrief.simplycyber.io/cpe.
Oh my God. And you can see this form. This is a basic form, super easy. Put in your name, your email address, check two boxes and hit Submit Attestation. And guess what? On August 1st, 2026, I will email you an email outlining all the episodes you attended, half a CPE for each, and then a button you can click to generate a PDF that has my name, signature, all that stuff on it. And it's a certificate of attendance for the month. It is my treat, my gift to you, making CPEs easy for everyone, really quick as if he needed to double down. Dan Reardon just quickly whipping up me on a surfboard in a 1960s vibe, tying directly into the thing.
Make no mistake, this is not your official meme of the week. Dan Reardon every single day, excuse me, every single Thursday, does a custom meme for this community. He has done it for years.
And he's got a piping hot fresh one for you guys today. But I guess it's a double shot. Well, well, well, do the DJ Foghorn thing.

Well, well, well.

**Gerald Auger** (4:38)
So we've got me surfing here, black and white.
True story, this is an actual photo. I was 25 in 1960 because I'm old. I use a lot of facial moisturizer though. You know what I mean? Kind of keeps me looking young, less catchers mitt. We'll get the Dan Reardon meme of the week at the mid roll. So stay tuned for that. But seriously, get your CPEs. This is a great little service. You have 24 hours from right now until 7:59 a.m. on July 10th. You can get credit for today.
Very easy. If you don't know what CPEs are, ask in chat. The community will help you, I promise. But the TLDR, the Too Long Didn't Read, the very easy rule of thumb is, if you have a cybersecurity certification that requires maintenance, then you need CPEs. Make sure that the cybersecurity certification body you're submitting to accepts this form of training. I know some organization certifications do not accept this as their training. I'm not going to name names, but one particular training organization that rhymes with PANs, accepts only their training, right? So you can only use their expensive training to get CPEs to maintain their expensive certifications. So that is a fact, Jack. I do want to say shout out to AdTech, who's calling for the first timers. Friends, if you're here for the first time, welcome to the party, pal.
