What's up, everybody? Good morning, welcome to the party. Today is Tuesday, July 7th, 2026 This is episode 1168, I believe, of Simply Cyber's Daily Cyber Threat Brief podcast. You're live with us here at the New England studios. I'm your host, Dr. Gerald Auger, and if you're looking to stay current on the top cyber news stories of the day, while giving high fives virtually to good people, you're in the right place. So get comfortable, get your coffee, and let's get into the news.
Yes, good morning, everybody. As Sierra Montgomery put it, Happy Tuesday. Hey, James, real quick and good to see you. Hot Plate GRC, Space Tacos, DreamLogic, Marlon J. Guys, we've got a banger of an episode for you. If you want to know what the top cyber news stories of the day are so you can be a better professional, so you can help your organization reduce cyber risk, and just so you can overall be the most effective professional you can be, well, you need to stay current every single day. We make it easy here at the Daily Cyber Threat Brief, because not only are we going to go through the top cyber news stories of the day, but I love educating and I'm your host. So what I plan on doing, a guy named 303, is going beyond the headlines, going deeper into the story and mining out value for you. Big old nuggets like where 49ers in San Francisco gold rush, but instead of gold, it's hot cyber news, lessons learned, tips, tricks, techniques, it all works and if I don't have an answer, then members of the Simply Cyber community directly above my head right here are always with the assist. You're basically like Scottie Pippins, right? Who was like a career leader for assists in the NBA? I don't really follow NBA, but whoever that career assist leader is, that's you. So we've got it in complete, just deep, deep well of experience and knowledge, all with the intent of helping you absolutely slay it as a cyber professional. Now, we could just write this up as a blog, right? We could just write this up as a newsletter, but we don't. We do it live every single weekday morning so we can have the energy of chat, so we can see how people are doing. John Stockton, see? So Brown Coyote can dish me up like a volleyball spike or set, and then I can spike it. Thank you, Brown Coyote. Also, mind you, Simply Cyber community member of the week. Now, of the eight stories that we're gonna go through, I have researched and prepped zero of them.
I'm gonna be discovering them with you in real time, and that's part of the challenge, part of the fun. And I know with high confidence, Ad Tech and Rhonda Rummerfield, I have high confidence that there is nothing that's gonna come through the Daily Cyber Threat Brief that I won't be able to pivot, that I won't be able to make moves like a snake in the grass and be able to identify and deliver some additional value beyond the headline itself. We've done it for over a thousand episodes. It's never been an issue. Do you want to say what's up to the mods? Always, I love, you know, I give the mods love all the time, but I always like to call it out specifically, like those blue names in chat, like HaircutFish, James McQuiggin, Kimberly Can Fix It, Jesse Johnson. I don't think James is a YouTube mod at this time, but he is a Discord mod.
So thank you mods. If you are a squad member, don't be shy inside the emote tray. You will find many fun emotes, but one of them is the like 1950s sailor tattoo. I think they call them Jerry, like coincidentally, not me, but just I think they call them Jerry sailors or whatever.
All right, everybody be cool. Space Tacos is in lurker mode. Woo. All right, guys. Now, every single episode of the Daily Cyber Threat Brief has members in the chat and many of you are long timers, Gabriel, Jaeger, TJ, Kishin InfoSec. But every once in a while, we get first timers. Now, if you're here for the first time, let me know in chat with a hashtag first timer. We love, love welcoming our first timers. We have a special sound effect, which I'll tease right here.

**Steve Prentice** (4:38)
Welcome to the party, pal.

**Dr. Gerald Auger** (4:40)
Welcome to the party, pal. That's John McClain from the 1998? No, 1992? 1988 1988 Fact check. Classic Die Hard, the original. I do believe it's 88
So anyways, we have sound effects. If you're here for the first time, whether you joined us live or you picked up middle of the show or hell, even if you're on replay, drop it in the comments. Hashtag first timer. We just love welcoming our first timers. It makes people understand what kind of community we are. Now, every single episode of the Daily Cyber Threat... Where's my mouse? Mouse? Every single episode of the Daily Cyber Threat Brief is worth half a CP.
