Josh Allen Runs Over Rams, Passes Brock Purdy in MVP Race | Ep 1259

So you know I'm all in on Lamar Jackson winning the MVP this year. But last night, I had some concerns. I had some concerns after watching the Buffalo Bills beat the Los Angeles Rams and watching Josh Allen's performance. I know the betting favorite and Scaps favorite is Brock Purdy. But anybody that watched last night's game, watched that Monday night football game, watched what Josh Allen did, put an entire franchise on his back.

You're kidding yourself if you think Brock Purdy is doing the same thing as Josh Allen. Even for someone like myself that's sitting here thinking, hey, this is Lamar Jackson's year. Lamar Jackson's already dinged up. We just missed last week. But to watch Josh Allen last night in a 37-34, what they'll call a shootout, but it was really a run out. Josh Allen looked like Jim Brown and OJ Simpson playing quarterback last night. And to watch someone on a night when their passing game is off, a quarterback, what year is Josh Allen in? He's got to be 28, 29 years old. This has got to be 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th year in the National Football League. And he's running like he's a rookie. He's running like he's 22, 23, 24 years old. He's looking for contact downfield because he's bigger than almost everybody, particularly once he gets past the defensive lineman. Hell, he is bigger than everybody once he gets past the defensive lineman. It was incredible last night. He rushed for 133 yards. And Charles texted me early in the game, like, hey man, I don't think they want this dude to pass. And I was like, what is going on? I mean, he's one of the best quarterbacks, one of the best passes in the league. But they were leaning away from him, trying to lean into James Cook, trying to lean into their running game. And then they had no choice because James Cook started fumbling the ball damn near every time he touched it. And it was like, hey Josh, you just gotta do this for us because no one else can save us. Our defense isn't good enough to slow down Matt Stafford and the Rams offense and Pukka Nakua. And so Josh, just put us on your back.

Let me, I should have looked this up beforehand, but I want to be exact on how old Josh Allen is. Holy cow, to see this man do this at this age.

Why does he say he's not popping up immediately? He was born in 1996 He is 30

May 21st, 1996 He's 30 years old. And we've been sitting here for years saying that, hey, eventually Lamar Jackson is not going to be able to run the way he used to because injuries are going to pop up and he's going to slow down. None of that applies to Josh Allen. I guess when you're 6'5, 240 pounds, the rules don't apply and he can still run the football like OJ Simpson. That was OJ Simpson in a Buffalo Bills uniform. Obviously more wide open lanes because they're not expected. I don't know what the Rams were doing, thinking, and there's a lot of second guessing of Sean McVay for how conservative he got at the end of the game. The real question is, you got to come out of man coverage and play some zone so you can put some eyes on Josh Allen.

You got to come out of man. You got to figure out some defensive style that allows you to keep eyes on Josh Allen.

That was incredible last night. And I guess the Rams got a talented secondary, but if you can't tackle Josh Allen, what difference does it make? Let me throw out some MVP stats here for Josh Allen. He's accounted for 75 percent of the Bills offensive scrimmage touchdowns this season. Fifteen of their 20 touchdowns have been either his seven passing or eight rushing touchdowns. He has accounted for 73 percent of their offensive yards this season. He is averaging 13.7 yards per completion this season and is averaging 5.8 yards per rush.

Here's the best part. They are four and one now or five and one? Four and one? Four and one now?

He has overcome a defense that is giving up 28.2 points per game. The worst in the AFC and the fifth worst in the NFL.

If that's not the MVP, I don't know who is. And yes, I will reserve the right to hop back on the Lamar Jackson bandwagon. But today, as we speak, after what I watched last night, I just got to keep it 100%. Like, holy cow, Josh Allen is more important, more valuable than ever. Because Joe Brady, the new head coach, everybody's going to talk about Sean McVay and why did he settle for the 48 yard field goal. And I get it. But if you really watch the game on before they got to overtime on Buffalo's last offensive possession that led to a TD, Joe Brady mismanaged the clock. They were snapping the ball with 14, 15, 16, 17 seconds on the play clock. Instead of milking the clock, they mismanaged the game and gave Los Angeles an opportunity to come back downfield in 60, 70 seconds, whatever it was, and score the tying touchdown. Because Joe Brady mismanaged the clock early in that their final last drive. I was like, what are you doing snapping the ball with 14 and 15 seconds left? Time was on your side, milk the clock, force them to use the timeout. You've seen your defense. Don't give them an opportunity to come back on offense, because you know your defense isn't going to stop them.
