The Hammer and Nigel Show, my name is Nigel Jason Hammer. Right over there, if you paid attention to mainstream legacy media, you would have thought this Flydubai Flight, this thwarted hijacking, was just some sort of brawl in the cockpit between the two pilots.
SPEAKER_2 (0:16)
Right, something you'd find on an old Spirit flight, right?
Nigel (0:21)
But that, I mean, ladies and gentlemen, is actually very serious and not at all the way it was described in, say, the BBC. And so, that's why we're going to Breitbart National Security Deputy Editor John Hayward to break it all down for us. What a week it's been. The more we learn about this co-pilot that tried to murder everybody on this flight. Maybe just reset, John.
First of all, thank you for coming on the show. Maybe just reset exactly when and what happened.
John Hayward (0:50)
Well, you've got this flight on Wednesday. It's flying from the United Arab Emirates into Israel. And this altercation breaks out. And that's what we were first told. And I can forgive the first 10 minutes, 20 minutes of news not knowing any better and saying it was a brawl. Like you know, they're not fighting over the last bag of peanuts. It turns out that the co-pilot had a blade and stabbed the pilot and then tried to crash the plane, killing everybody on board and maybe more if he could have hit a building, if he got to the to Israel. And the captain of the plane, who was an Indian national, somehow fought off all the wounds he sustained in order to open up the cockpit door so the passengers could run in and subdue the attacker. And one of the passengers was a plumber, who happens to watch a lot of TV shows about airplanes. So he knew to grab the oak and level the plane out before it crashed. And that's how the day was saved.
SPEAKER_2 (1:37)
But you say that like it happens all the time, John, like that's a pretty amazing list right there. That's a pretty strong checklist of things that have to happen for a miracle. And that's what I believe this was.
John Hayward (1:51)
Yeah, it really was. It's nobody's idea of an average Wednesday morning. It's just like a lot of things went right here in the middle of what could have been an absolutely horrifying catastrophe.
SPEAKER_2 (2:00)
You know, I didn't...
John Hayward (2:00)
A lot of amazing things happened.
Nigel (2:02)
I didn't know the part about the plumber because I did... Was there like a deadhead crew? There were some other pilots on that flight, correct? That eventually landed in Saudi Arabia?
John Hayward (2:13)
Yeah, that's apparently how they got the rest of the way home. There were other pilots on the plane who were deadheading, riding along, and they took over and landed the plane in Saudi Arabia once it got diverted.
Nigel (2:22)
We're speaking with John Hayward, Breitbart National Security Deputy Editor, talking about the Flydubai Flight, that the bloody brawl that ended up being a thwarted hijacking. Okay, so what do we know about the copilot?
Was it the pilot or the copilot that was the attacker here?
John Hayward (2:44)
The copilot. The copilot was the attacker. We've been told he was an Omani national. He was from Oman, and that has touched off a huge scandal in Israel because Israel has strict regulations that if you're flying an inbound flight to Israel, you cannot be from a country that doesn't have diplomatic relations with Israel, and Oman doesn't. So this guy should not have been on the flight deck of that aircraft. And there's a lot of finger pointing going on right now over in Israel is how did this happen? How was that allowed to be? Right now, a lot of excuses are being offered.
SPEAKER_2 (3:15)
Do we know anything at all about Big Picture? Who may have put this guy up to it? Was he Lone Wolf? Is this something he had been planning on? Or was this part of some larger network?
John Hayward (3:28)
That is a big question that the Israeli intelligence, the US intelligence is involved. The Emiratis are investigating it. Saudi Arabia is investigating it. So everybody's digging into this. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel said in an interview yesterday that they have reason to believe that the co-pilot received extremist Islamist indoctrination of some kind. And some people that apparently know him have given interviews to local media and said that he was a religious zealot and he wouldn't let a woman touch him and all sorts of things. But that doesn't mean in and of itself that he was part of a terror network or that he was working for a state actor. That is going to have to be proven and proven very thoroughly before any action is taken.
