Welcome to Landau Tiki Bar, the I Used to Be Somebody Show.
I've got my first interview with an ex-cop. I'll explain in a minute. First, I want to thank this month's sponsors. Thank you so much to our loyal sponsor, Capital Advantage Wealth Management, and thank you to our book sponsor. Hundreds of our listeners have bought How to Retire and Not Die. Gary Serak offers great life advice for anyone thinking about retiring, gives great insights into what that successful retirement life can really look like.
Following today's interview, we've got two fun segments. First, we talk to the unretirement with the pros guys. Today, we answer the age old question. I get tons of these messages in regards to the podcast, and they say, I have no idea what I will do in retirement. What are people really saying when they mention this? And that is followed by Pickleball Chronicles with Traver. Traver and I talked about what to do when things go terribly wrong on the Pickleball court. Unfortunately, I think I used myself an example here, which has happened many times.
Some days you just feel like you've never even played this before. What is Pickleball and what's going on? Traver really helps me figure out what I can do right there on the spot to fix it.
So I'm so excited about our guest today, Jim Beezley. First, I have to thank my friend, Lisa Beduelos, who introduced me to Jim. I pride myself at finding people that have had different interests and careers. I've had congressmen, state judges, professional athletes, comedians, but I couldn't find an ex-cop and I finally found one. Jim Beezley was not just any cop, he was a captain. He really gives great insights into what that job really was like. And now he's got the coolest second act in the world. He now has his dream job in Major League Baseball and he absolutely loves it. You're really in the door for a great treat here. Sit back and listen to Jim Beezley live in the Landau Tiki Bar.

Shohei Ohtani, who, if you're not a baseball fan, you might not know him or you might just have heard of him. But in my opinion, he's probably the best baseball player going right now. Signed a $700 billion contract, right? So I'm working the Japan dugout. He doesn't play the field more often than not, so he constantly going up and down the stairs where I was at, tapping on the shoulder, excuse me, excuse me. One time I had to throw away some of my sticker wrappings and stuff, and I walked down the stairs and I'm going to go throw it away, and I'm looking for a trash can and there's a little room right outside the dugout.
He's the only one in it, Shohei is there. I walk in there, I got this lot of trash, and he just motions to me, trash, and he's like, throw it to me.

**Carl Landau** (3:13)
I'm like, okay.

**Jim Beezley** (3:15)
What? I give my trash to Shohei Ohtani, who makes a gazillion dollars, and he throws the trash. I'm like, thank you.

**Carl Landau** (3:24)
Hi Jim, welcome to the I Used to be Somebody show.

**Jim Beezley** (3:27)
Hi Carl, thanks for having me so much.

**Carl Landau** (3:29)
We're in the Tiki Bar. I haven't interviewed someone here for several months, so take a look. What do you think?

**Jim Beezley** (3:37)
In all honesty, I have to say I love the place, love the outlook, love the bar. There seems to be an inordinate amount of San Francisco Giant paraphernalia, which small hives are developing. But other than that, absolutely fabulous. I love what you've done with it.

**Carl Landau** (3:50)
Okay, so I want to introduce you to the audience. James Beezley is a former captain with the Sacramento Police Department. He spent a total of 35 years in law enforcement. Throughout his career, he has led large scale operations ranging from narcotics investigation and hostage negotiations to multimillion dollar budgeting and personnel development.
He's had two transitions to the private sector, serving as Senior Director of Protective Services at Sutter Health, and now he works for Major League Baseball. We're going to talk about that and more, but first on the I Used to be Somebody show, we're going to play a little icebreaker game. So, Jim, are you willing to play the game?

**Jim Beezley** (4:35)
Absolutely, bring it on, Carl.

**Carl Landau** (4:36)
Okay, so the name of our company is Pickleball Media.
