One, two, three, let's go!
**Nigel** (0:02)
You're listening to The Hammer and Nigel Show. Hi there, my name is Nigel. Jason Hammer is right over there with a very special guest on the hotline.
**Jason Hammer** (0:11)
Somebody's got a birthday tomorrow. Jerry Lopez, Indy Spanglish.
**Nigel** (0:17)
Is that right?
**Jason Hammer** (0:18)
That's where you can find him on social media. He's been doing a great job filling in on the midday show this week. My man, how are you?
**Jerry Lopez** (0:25)
Hey, let me tell you something. Tomorrow, I will turn into a DILF, and that stands for Damn I Love Freedom. Cannot wait to be 45, amigos. Big day tomorrow.
**Jason Hammer** (0:36)
I was told that stood for something else, but agree to disagree.
Hey, before we get into your thoughts here, I always want to set the scene, because there's always somebody listening for the first time. The reason we love having Jerry on this show, not only is he a fun dude, but he's got a great story. Jerry has served the United States military. He is a veteran. His family came from Cuba. So with that being said, I'm always fascinated with your perspective, Jerry, when people start talking about how awesome socialism is. And this takes us into what happened on Tuesday night in New York where socialism was on parade. I'm just curious as to what you think.
**Jerry Lopez** (1:20)
Listen, if I'm being honest, I hope socialism goes through everything in New York City. There's not a city that deserves to be burned to the ground more than New York City. So vote for it all you want, you idiots. The problem is it's full of Puerto Ricans and not Cubans because we would have known better.
**Nigel** (1:35)
So, I mean, like in Cuba, it's socialism on steroids times a thousand, right? I mean, these people that are voting for this are all young people, it seems like, and the voter turnout was low, by the way, but it just seems like they have no clue what socialism really is like. In countries that embrace it, like Cuba.
**Jerry Lopez** (1:55)
Yeah.
So socialism is sounds great, right? Except for we're dealing with people, okay? If we all could give 100 percent every day and everybody's making the same, that's great, but that it's a farce, right? So, socialism comes in like a Trojan horse, right? It's power to the people, we deserve this, we deserve that. What they forget to tell you is, somebody's got to be in charge of what we deserve, and unfortunately, that's one person in the government, and it turns into Fidel Castro, it turns into whatever. Socialism is great, until you run out of everybody else's money.
**Jason Hammer** (2:27)
Now, the other night, I heard the House Speaker, Mike Johnson, talk very passionately about why it's so important to show up and vote this midterm, because socialism is rising. And he sounded pretty scared, man.
I gotta be honest, Jerry, I'm on the other side of this. I think if I'm a conservative voter, if I'm somebody that normally votes for the Republican candidate, the more of these socialist idiots, the better. Not everywhere is New York City or Minneapolis or LA. I just don't think it's possible for a main presidential candidate to win swing states using socialism as their backdrop. Does that make sense?
**Jerry Lopez** (3:09)
Let me remind you of Bernie Sanders, who should have been the Democratic nominee as a socialist, and they got rid of him at a convention for Hillary Clinton. The problem is, much like this LGBTQ stuff and the trend, if you can normalize socialism, you're not that far away from it being a reality.
**Jason Hammer** (3:25)
Speaking with Jerry Lopez here.
**Jerry Lopez** (3:27)
The Democrats and the conservatives have way more in common than the Democrats and socialists by far.
**Nigel** (3:33)
What's it like in Cuba for people day to day there? Do you still have family there at all?
**Jerry Lopez** (3:41)
Yeah. So my mom is one of 12 She came over on the Mario boat lift in 1980 Jimmy Carter had a refugee program with Fidel Castro. Literally the beginning of Scarface is when my family came over. So it was like my mom, my dad, Al Pacino, and all the other actors were all in that place. And so what happened is NGOs and churches went down there to disperse of all these Cubans. And my family was sponsored by a church on the southwest side of Indianapolis. My mom and dad came up here in 1980 I was born in 81 So it was poor whites, poor blacks, and this kid that looks like he's Indian from Life of Pi. We don't even know what a Cuban is. Right? Like no clue. I will tell you right now, America is great for one reason and really one reason only that we take for granted.
