It’s Tax Season: Don't F*ck This Up
6 Figure Creative
March 13, 2018
Taxes have always sucked ass, and they always will suck ass. Unfortunately taxes are impossible to (legally) avoid if you’re a freelancer, and the repercussions for evading taxes far outweigh any benefits you could ever gain from cheating.

You're listening to the 6 Figure Home Studio Podcast, the number one resource for running a profitable home recording studio.
Brian Hood (0:19)
So welcome back to another episode of the 6 Figure Home Studio Podcast. I am Brian Hood and I'm with my co-host, who is not really with me. He's kind of hundreds of miles away.
Christopher Graham, or Chris Graham, as he likes to be known. How are you doing today, Chris?
Christopher Graham (0:31)
Hi, I'm doing great. I hired a new assistant.
Brian Hood (0:36)
First of all, it sounded like you were going into a joke voice. And then you immediately said, no, I'm done.
Christopher Graham (0:42)
Just the hey. That was all I needed.
I'm having a good week. I hired a new assistant this week. She seems like she's going to be amazing.
Brian Hood (0:48)
Awesome.
Christopher Graham (0:49)
So I've been working a lot of new systems for her to help her get integrated and stuff. But yeah, I'm doing pretty good.
Brian Hood (0:55)
Good. Well, we're just going to get straight into it today because we saw someone in the 6 Figure Home Studio community, which is our Facebook group. You can just search for that on Facebook if you want to join our in our community. Someone was asking about looking for a an accountant or a CPA certified public accountant. And he had a bunch of questions related to that. And he seemed to be, to me, at least on the wrong path.
And seeing that it's a basically tax season right now, if you're in the US you're in tax season right now.
We should probably do a podcast episode about taxes. It's March 8th right now, as of the time we record this episode. And if you're in America, you have taxes on your mind. Now, if you're not an American, and you're in some other country that's not in the USA you can go ahead and tune out right now. You can go ahead and skip this episode. This is not for you. This is specifically for Americans. But I think this will be helpful for a lot of you, because this is something that you can really screw up.
And you can also end up paying way too much for the services that you should be getting for a real, what's heavily affordable, amount.
Christopher Graham (1:58)
So for those of you that are outside the United States, that are still listening for some reason, here in the US, all taxes are due on April 15th. It's this major anti-holiday here in the United States.
Brian Hood (2:11)
It's the worst day of the year for every entrepreneur in America, tax day.
Christopher Graham (2:14)
It's true. It's a terrible day. You have to get your taxes in by the 15th, or you get in big trouble with the government, with the IRS. And you would think in a functional democracy that you wouldn't have everything due in the same day because then everyone has to slow down and stop working and focus on taxes, and all these people need to be working on taxes for you and for the government.
It's completely ridiculous.
Brian Hood (2:39)
It is a completely fucked system. And I'm sure every accountant on Earth would agree with you, or at least in the US would agree with you, because it's like hell for them during the months leading up to April 15th.
Christopher Graham (2:50)
Yeah, so I'm going to fix our entire government. Here we go. Here's what we're going to do from now on. USA.
Brian Hood (2:55)
Go for it, Chris, you libertarian bastard.
Christopher Graham (2:57)
Your taxes will be due one month after your birthday.
Brian Hood (3:03)
That's a good idea.
Christopher Graham (3:04)
So we'll have a rolling date.
So that way we can minimize the number of people that have to be accountants for living. We can minimize the number of people working for the IRS. It'll simplify everything. So we're going to roll out this rolling tax thing across the nation. That's what we do here at the 6 Figure Home Studio podcast.
Brian Hood (3:20)
We're going to lobby for this with our dozens of dollars.
We don't do any of this. This is all lies, by the way, people. Don't listen to anything Chris is saying.
Christopher Graham (3:27)
Yeah, this is all lies. So until then, we need to talk about taxes that are due on April 15th for you guys that own studios. Yep. Okay, so we're going to do something crazy today. Me and Brian don't have an outline. We're just going to have a conversation about this.
