Let's pivot to a somewhat local edition of Is It Racist?
Nigel (0:06)
Oh, my.
SPEAKER_1 (0:07)
It's time to play.
Is It Racist? Now, for those who may be new to The Hammer and Nigel Show, first of all, thank you for tuning in.
Nigel (0:17)
Hi.
SPEAKER_1 (0:18)
Here is how we play the game, and to explain, it's AOC.
SPEAKER_3 (0:23)
Is it racist? Is something racist? Yes or no?
SPEAKER_1 (0:27)
OK, I think we're all on the same page here.
All right. We're talking about Caitlin Clark here, Nigel.
Nigel (0:33)
Oh, no. I mean, that's fine. That's great. But I could imagine only what was said about her.
SPEAKER_1 (0:40)
So you're telling me you've got doubts that a podcast hosted by Cari Champion, Bakari Sellers and Jemele Hill would not give Caitlin Clark and her fans a fair shake? Huh? How dare you? How dare you? Narrator Nigel was right.
Former ESPN anchor, Cari Champion, one of the great race baiters that's out there, had fellow race baiting Mount Rushmore members Jemele Hill and Bakari Sellers on a podcast. And they're talking about how Caitlin Clark's fans, fever fans, you MAGA loving racists are the biggest problem with the WNBA.
SPEAKER_3 (1:27)
She represents, you know, she's an avatar for middle America, white people who want to see, you know, white women doing well and playing in a sport that is traditionally black. You know, she's a heterosexual white woman went to a she was Catholic and all the things. So all the things they think she is, they're like this, I can relate to this. I can get behind her. So she brings in this new fan base. And what this fan base does is bring in more business. And the WNBA has needed this business. So they look the other way when this fan base behaves like MAGA. They look the other way when this fan base is wholly inappropriate to other players who are just doing their job. They look the other way when the fan base reacts to critique of Caitlin Clark.
The WNBA wants to bring in new fans. But these new fans are not the type of fans that in this polarizing world that we live in today can really accept all of the players in their queerness and in their blackness and in their immigration, whatever. They don't get it. They're here for her.
And these, and because they are here for Caitlin and she's driving numbers like they've never done before, the WNBA has a hard time standing up and saying what you're saying to the players or is inappropriate, how you're calling other players. The N word is inappropriate.
Nigel (2:50)
Okay, who's doing that? What proof do you have of this?
SPEAKER_1 (2:53)
Proof is the key word proof. I'm glad you said that, Nigel, because how many times have there been stories of so and so was thrown out of a fever game for an inappropriate action and the league does an investigation and nothing was ever found or they let him back in.
Nigel (3:11)
You're talking about fans.
SPEAKER_1 (3:13)
Yes, that's what this whole thing is about. You evil, racist, rotten, MAGA loving, Caitlin Clark, Indiana fever fans. That was the take from the Mount Rushmore there of race baiting, Cari Champion, Bakari Sellers and Jemele Hill.
Nigel (3:29)
Who's listening to this? Like, we're putting it on display. We're giving it a platform, but only to laugh at it, only to mock it, right?
Only to point out how ridiculous it is.
SPEAKER_1 (3:45)
Yeah, that's a great point. Who is listening to that?
And what proof do you have?
Name me the name of the fever fan that has ever been officially busted for yelling the N word at a game. OK, now we've heard complaints from other teams. So-and-so said this in the stands. And in today's era of cell phones and cameras everywhere, I promise you, if somebody would have called Angel Reese the word, it would have been everywhere. I promise you, it would have been everywhere. It would have been posted by Jemele Hill. It would have been posted by Cari Champion or Bakari Sellers. But they don't have any proof of this.
Nigel (4:32)
And Caitlin Clark is an easy target.
SPEAKER_1 (4:35)
Right.
Nigel (4:35)
Here to point out, you could make that point like, Oh, yeah, because Caitlin Clark is white, she has a lot of white fans. And we will extrapolate that because she has white fans, that they're racist.
SPEAKER_1 (4:52)
All of them are racist. You racist Indiana fans, because you know how much we hate people like Reggie Miller, Reggie Wayne, Dale Davis, Antonio Davis, Edger and James. Like some of the most popular athletes in the history of this state, all black dudes, Edger and James. There's no way if this were a super racist fan base, the way that Cari Champion makes us out to be. Do you think we would rally behind a dude with gold teeth, dreadlocks from the University of Miami who didn't talk like us? Edger and James is one of the most popular dudes ever, ever.
