Hi, I'm Perry, and this is The Beauty Brains.

Hello, and welcome to The Beauty Brains, a show where real cosmetic chemists answer your beauty product questions and give you an insider's look at the cosmetic industry. This is episode 228 I'm your host, Perry Romanoski, and with me today is the person with the coolest handle on Instagram, Valerie George. Hello, Valerie.

Valerie George (0:32)

Thanks, Perry, how are you doing?

Perry Romanoski (0:34)

I'm good, what is that handle of yours on Instagram?

Valerie George (0:37)

Cosmetic underscore chemist, I was early in the game.

Perry Romanoski (0:41)

My favorite ones are when you like, we'll color hair swatches and then you comb them online. Oh, it's so brilliant.

You know what else is brilliant?

Our show. Our upcoming show. Yeah, we got a whole bunch of going on on today's show. We're going to be answering questions about whether Cocametal Propyl Betaine or Dessal Glucoside will remove those insoluble silicones. I know it sounds a little techy, but you know, if you use co-washing, this is the question you want answered. Also, are knockoff fragrance sprayers reliable? Do home microcurrent devices work? And is it okay to blend your beauty products? And of course, we're going to cover some beauty science news also. But before we get to that, Valerie, how are you today?

Valerie George (1:26)

I'm doing good. I've been wondering how you've been doing the last week with your foster kitten.

Perry Romanoski (1:33)

You know, I have to admit, I am feeling a little sadness right now.

Valerie George (1:40)

You didn't kill him, did you?

Perry Romanoski (1:43)

No, I got him last week.

So, as an aside, if you missed the last show, I got a foster cat, and I was going to foster him for a while because the shelter had an outbreak of some sort of feline virus, and so they had to take all the healthy cats out and put them in foster homes. So I was there. And I can't have a cat myself because my wife's allergic, but we got the cat last week. And the first night he didn't, like he hid, he stayed away. And then the next night he sort of came out. And a couple of days in, we're playing, and he loved my wife. He followed her around everywhere.

And of course, she's allergic, but she likes cats too. So anyway, we kind of got to attach to him, and then he got adopted.

Valerie George (2:30)

Well, that's great he got adopted, but I'm sorry you didn't get to keep him the full time.

Perry Romanoski (2:35)

I know. Well, we were, we probably would have adopted him if he didn't get adopted because he was so, he was such a character. But I guess that is what happens when you foster pets, right, you get kind of attached to them, and then they get ripped away from you.

Valerie George (2:51)

Did he like your toys? I remember you saying you bought him a bunch of toys.

Perry Romanoski (2:55)

No, he hated the toys. He didn't like stuff that made noise, but you know what he liked?

Valerie George (2:59)

What?

Perry Romanoski (2:59)

I discovered this.

If you just crinkle up a piece of aluminum foil and throw that, he could play with that for hours. And then I learned, I take a little soda cap from a bottle cap from a soda, throw that at him. He loved that. And so...

Valerie George (3:15)

That's so funny when they love the free stuff, right? And you're like, wait, I spent a hundred bucks on all this stuff for you.

Perry Romanoski (3:21)

I know. But you know, within the week, he did jump up on the shelf and knock over a vase and broke that, so...

Valerie George (3:29)

Well, he wouldn't be a cat if he didn't do that kind of stuff, right?

Perry Romanoski (3:32)

Exactly. But I wish him well. It was a good week and we'll probably get in another one, but I'm going to need a couple of weeks to sort of just become detached again.

But why don't we move on to some Beauty product stuff, right?

Valerie George (3:49)

Yeah, I think there was some big news this week, right?

Perry Romanoski (3:53)

Yes, here is The Beauty Science News.

All right, well, we got two stories we're gonna talk about today. How about we first talk about Ulta launching their Conscious Beauty program? Did you see this one, Valerie?

Valerie George (4:11)

I sure did, and I thought it was really neat that they chose to call it Conscious Beauty and not Clean Beauty.
