It's real, and it's spectacular. Welcome to Primary Technology, the show about the tech news that matters. It's Apple Week. We have a brand new foldable iPhone, a brand new form factor we're gonna get into, the use cases, the software, how it's different, how it's kind of an iPad, kind of an iPhone. Plus, Apple Watch will literally be listening all the time to privacy implications of that with live replay and Siri recaps. We did get new AirPods 5, but we might be upgrading to, and yeah, iPhone 18 Pro is also out there with a variable aperture. Jason's like a real life photographer. First, we'll get his thoughts on that too. This episode is brought to you by CleanMyMac and you, the members who support us directly. I'm one of your hosts, Stephen Robles, joined by my friend, Jason Aten. How's it going, Jason?

Jason Aten (0:42)

It's great. It's been a lot, Stephen.

Stephen Robles (0:44)

It's been a huge week. We were talking in the pre-show, which if you're a member, you get the unedited feed. I've been recording hours and hours of videos. Jason's been writing, writing and writing all the things. I was hanging by a thread in that intro, so I wouldn't have to edit it later. I don't know if you could feel that.

Jason Aten (0:58)

It was like a bicycle going downhill and you're about to lose your balance and you just hope you don't hit a rock.

Stephen Robles (1:04)

That's exactly what was happening in real time because I have to record a whole other podcast after this and I want to get this out before I do this. Anyway, it's a big week, Jason, and so we're going to get right to it. Do you know what the quote was at the top? It wasn't a movie. I cheated. It's a TV show.

Jason Aten (1:19)

Tell me what it was again.

Stephen Robles (1:21)

The actual quote is, they're real and they're spectacular.

Jason Aten (1:26)

Oh, wait.

Stephen Robles (1:27)

Yeah, you know what it is. It just triggered a sense memory.

I saw it hit you. This is like a 90s sitcom, late 80s, 90s sitcom.

Jason Aten (1:36)

I can't place it.

Stephen Robles (1:37)

It'll come to you. When we're recording the rest of the show, I just want you to shout it out the moment it comes to you, even if we're talking about those in-depth iPhone Duo topics.

Jason Aten (1:44)

It's the West Wing, right?

Stephen Robles (1:46)

No, no. When it comes to it, it's going to come to you.

Jason Aten (1:48)

Oh, I know what it is.

Stephen Robles (1:51)

Just shout it out when it comes to you. Anyway.

Yes, it is. It's Seinfeld. Of course, I'm talking about the iPhone Duo, but that's from the show.

We have five-star reviews. We're past 500, but keep dropping them. We had no five-star reviews this week, but we're probably going to have a bunch of new listeners today. We would love for you to drop a five-star rating review in Apple Podcasts. And let's get right to it. The event started with, I think, one of the most poignant handoffs between CEOs. There was a whole opening montage filmed on iPhone 18 Pro, which we're going to get to later. We're going to start off with the Duo. But Tim Cook made a little guest appearance, and he said, no, no, no, I'm not your guy. That's your guy. And I thought it was really a nice handoff to do in the video. And you know, it's weird. We didn't get this before with the last Apple transition. And this feel, it felt right. It felt good. How did it feel to you?

Jason Aten (2:44)

Well, I wrote, the reason I wrote about it was, anyway, I knew I was going to write about it as soon as it happened, and we're like two and a half minutes into the thing, right? I was like, oh, this is cool, because a lot of people in our circle were like, I wonder, Tim Cook will walk out there and he'll hand an iPhone Duo to John Ternes and they'll talk about it. I'm like, that's definitely not going to happen. Apple is not a company that's nostalgic about its former, you know, whatever employees. I guess he's still an employee. But this felt like the right thing to do because it acknowledged Tim Cook, and then it handed it off. It was like the most Apple way to do it. It wasn't too much, so I thought it was great.

Stephen Robles (3:19)

And I think he says, no, no, no, no, no, not me. That's your guy. That's your opener.
