It's October 10th. This is New York Rangers News Today, AI-powered stories from inside your team. Okay, here's a deal with Igor Shesterkin. The New York Rangers dropped the news that he's out for the entire 2026-27 season after a serious lower body injury during a game against the Washington Capitals. They didn't spill too many details, but an injury expert has taken a look at the video to give us some insight into what went down.

The injury happened in the second period of the Rangers' 3-1 loss. Shesterkin was trying to get back in position and ended up jamming his right skate into the post. He fell and had to be helped off the ice, which never looks good. Losing him is a big blow. He's crucial to the team's success. Shesterkin's injury has been classified as a right knee issue, and experts are concerned it may involve significant damage. An athletic trainer analyzed the situation and pointed out the risks of MCL, ACL and meniscus injuries due to the way his leg bent.

Those are serious problems that won't heal overnight. In the meantime, Dylan Garand will step up as the starter. He's shown promise with a strong record in his limited NHL appearances. But the Rangers' backup, Joonas Korpisalo, is also dealing with an injury, so it's a bit of a scramble. They might have to look at adding another goalie soon. As for the Rangers, they've got a big game coming up against the Vancouver Canucks, and they're going to need to sort out their goalie situation quickly.

It's a tough blow, but they've got to keep their heads up and stay focused.
