Today is October 5th. Okay, big news out of New York Rangers camp. Igor Shesterkin just snagged the first star of the week honors after making NHL history with the first goalie goal for the franchise.

This guy is not just a shot stopper. He made 71 saves and racked up 2 points in the opening week. Then there's the competition. Edmonton Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard took home the second star with 4 goals and 8 points, while Vancouver's Paul Cotter secured third star with 4 goals and 6 points. Quite the race this week for sure. Shesterkin's historic goal came during the Rangers 5-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. With just over 2 minutes left, he fired a shot from his zone that sailed into the empty net. You can imagine that Madison Square Garden went wild. A moment like that really elevates a player's career. In Shesterkin's second game, he kept his offense going with a secondary assist, extending his point streak. He's still holding down the four in net two with the solid goals against average of 1.67 and a save percentage of .934.

That kind of performance is what makes a real difference for a team. So yeah, Shesterkin's showing why he's such an essential part of the Rangers. With his incredible skill set and now a record-breaking goal, the team's in a great position early this season. Let's see how he builds on this momentum.
