I Love You, Daddy!

Okay, our friends, so today, here in the United States, we're having a holiday. It is the Father's Day. That's right, one day set aside for dads to say, you guys are great and we love you.

**Philip** (0:24)
Día de las padres.

**Lisa Bueno** (0:27)
Los padres?
No, boy, we're confused. Today is a day for the fathers out there. We love our dads. We think they are fantastic. And so today, we will be reading a story for the dads, but specifically for your dad, right?

**Philip** (0:51)
Yeah.

**Lisa Bueno** (0:52)
Why don't you sit up and do your message for your dad?

**Philip** (0:57)
My dad is the one dad that I can always look up to when I'm stuck in hard situations. And my dad never forgets about me or gives up on me. And I always feel safe when I'm near him.

**Lisa Bueno** (1:18)
That is the best kind of dad. Today, we will be reading a little golden book called I Love You, Daddy. It was written by Edie Evans and illustrated by Rusty Fletcher, and it is read today by Philip.
No mommy, just Philip.

**Philip** (1:37)
No, no, it's read today by Philip and Mommy.

**Lisa Bueno** (1:40)
That's right, Philip and Mommy.

**Philip** (1:42)
Because who would start a story if it wasn't mommy?

**Lisa Bueno** (1:45)
It's true. Are you ready?
I'll describe the pictures. In the pictures, we can see dad and his kids, and they are going to a carnival with balloons and rides. It looks like a lot of fun. And the book says, Daddy, I love you.

**Philip** (2:01)
I want you to know I have a great time wherever we go.

**Lisa Bueno** (2:07)
Like to a carnival, for example?

**Philip** (2:11)
Yeah, at the car wash, we pretend we're in deep sea, and the brushes are fish-wetting their friends around me. Or sometimes we have to pretend that we're pirates, and the brushes are the Kraken attacking our ship.

**Lisa Bueno** (2:29)
That's right. You do that, don't you?

**Philip** (2:34)
Camping is my favorite summer event. We sleep in the woods, I help pitch a tent.

**Lisa Bueno** (2:41)
Yeah, in the picture, we can see the kids putting up their tent, and the dad has got the fishing pole. That's not really something that we do.

**Philip** (2:49)
Yeah, it's just... We're just saying it because it's in the book.

**Lisa Bueno** (2:52)
It's in the book, yeah.

**Philip** (2:54)
We plant seeds out back in neat, straight rows, and then water them with a garden hose.

**Lisa Bueno** (3:04)
Oh, there's the garden hose.

**Philip** (3:05)
Well, mommy and I do that, but daddy doesn't really help us with the garden.

**Lisa Bueno** (3:11)
That's okay.

**Philip** (3:12)
Yeah.

**Lisa Bueno** (3:13)
It is fun to plant things, isn't it? And watch them grow.

**Philip** (3:16)
Yeah. Going to a petting zoo is always lots of fun.
We feed goats, pigs and sheep out in the bright warm sun.

**Lisa Bueno** (3:34)
That is a lot of fun to do too. But you do have to be mindful if you're a person who has allergies. You can't go touch all those animals. But in this picture, we can see the dad, and he's holding up his little girl and the little boy. They're all feeding the animals. You buy food there at the petting zoo, and then you can pet the animals.

**Philip** (3:54)
When snow covers the ground and hills are all white, we sled and make snowballs from morning to night.

**Lisa Bueno** (4:04)
Yeah. Or another fun thing to do is to go to the mountains.
If you live near one, because sometimes there's snow on top of the mountain, you just have to get up there. Remember when we did that, we took a tram to the very top of the mountain, and then we went sledding up there. And then we came back down, and we were in shorts and a t-shirt, because it was a hot day at the bottom of the mountain.

**Philip** (4:26)
So cold at the top.

**Lisa Bueno** (4:28)
Yep.

**Philip** (4:29)
At the neighborhood park, we jump, swing and play. Soon the sun sets.
Have we been here all day?

**Lisa Bueno** (4:38)
That's a good question. Sometimes it feels like you've been to the park the whole day, right? Especially if you're having a really good time.

**Philip** (4:48)
Hello, Daddy. For all that we do in a contest for Best Dad, the winner is you.

**Lisa Bueno** (4:58)
And in the picture, we can see that Best Dad, he's getting a crown given to him by his kid.
