You're listening to The Beauty Brains Show, where real scientists answer your beauty questions. And now, here's Randy and Perry.

Randy Schuller (0:19)

Welcome to Show 161 You know, personally, I feel that our palindromically numbered shows are some of our best, but I don't know when I get expectations on.

Perry Romanowski (0:28)

Yeah, I completely agree.

Randy Schuller (0:29)

But anyway.

Perry Romanowski (0:29)

Remember back in 2002, the year of the palindrome?

Randy Schuller (0:32)

Let's stay on track here. Hey, I'm Randy Schuller, and I'm joined in the studio by my peerless podcasting partner, Perry. Hey, Perry.

Perry Romanowski (0:41)

Hey, Randy, how's it going? It's been a little while, huh?

Randy Schuller (0:44)

It has been a while.

So we're gonna make up for lost ground with lots of good stuff today. We're gonna talk about, here's what we're gonna tell you today. We're gonna tell you what to look for in an inexpensive natural lip balm, how Korean beauty anti-aging masks work, and why baby shampoo is perfectly okay for adults.

Perry Romanowski (1:06)

Oh, that's exciting.

Randy Schuller (1:07)

But before we get to all that, do we have another edition of Where in the World is Kellyanne Conway or whatever we call this bit?

Perry Romanowski (1:16)

Perry Romanowski?

Randy Schuller (1:17)

Yes, that's what I meant.

Perry Romanowski (1:19)

Well, yeah, no, I've been busy. We haven't had a show in a while, so that's gonna give me some time to travel.

I actually had a couple of trips out to New York, where one of them, I attended the trade show for the Society of Cosmetic Chemists.

Randy Schuller (1:34)

The Secret Society, yes.

Perry Romanowski (1:37)

Yeah, featuring all of the latest offerings of cosmetic raw materials. Very exciting. And you know what I learned?

There isn't much different there than there was last year. You know, it's really quite amazing how little changes in raw materials. I mean, there's just like tweaks of different surfactants, or maybe new blends of preservatives, or new marketing angles, but when it comes to the ingredients, the stuff that's actually going to have a noticeable impact on your cosmetics, I really didn't see anything.

Randy Schuller (2:11)

This is an inspiring segment for our listeners.

Perry Romanowski (2:14)

Well, I just wanted to point out, this is why all the innovation in the cosmetic industry, it comes from the stories that the marketers are telling. So the products that you're getting are, they're perfectly fine products and they work great, but to sell stuff, you need good stories, because the technology doesn't change that much.

Randy Schuller (2:34)

Yeah, we'll put it another way, there's not enough new technology to really fill all the new product needs that are out there, because every year, companies have to launch new products. So there's a lot of tweaking and revisiting of technologies.

Perry Romanowski (2:47)

Yeah, exactly. And you know, I guess I should mention that by spending some of the time off, I did spend some of that working on launching a new shampoo and conditioner line.

Randy Schuller (2:59)

You launched your own shampoo and conditioner line.

Perry Romanowski (3:03)

Well, it's not just my own, I was working with somebody else, you know, I was a moonlighter. And I'm not gonna spend a lot of time here on The Beauty Brains talking about it because there's actually qualities of the way it's marketed, which are in direct contrast to how we would encourage people to do stuff on The Beauty Brains.

Randy Schuller (3:23)

Let me just check with the lawyers. Hey, does this go against our vow not to sell products? Okay, it's sketchy at best, so.

Perry Romanowski (3:32)

Well, anyway, let me tell you a little bit of it. The line is called Feek, and we finally...

I recorded a show with you, and I think I talked to you about the name.

Randy Schuller (3:41)

Yeah, how much I despise the name.

Perry Romanowski (3:43)

Yeah, you hate it. But now I've kind of come to embrace it. Feek, it rhymes with unique. Feek is an uniqueness, so.

But anyway. So if you're interested in that, you can go to feek.com for more information.

Randy Schuller (3:54)

Yeah, because people are gonna know exactly how to spell feek. Come on.

Perry Romanowski (3:59)

P-H-I-Q-U-E, feek, right?

Randy Schuller (4:01)

Today's show brought to you by Feek.

Perry Romanowski (4:04)

Anyway, it's been a fun experience going through the entire process of coming up with an idea, creating the formulas, getting it made, and then setting up the system. It really is, it was almost as exhausting as putting together a new Beauty Brains podcast.
