How a Home Service Owner's Cheapest Hire Is Now His Biggest Revenue Line

The Home Service Expert Podcast

Most home service owners hear virtual assistant and think someone to answer emails. Alyssa Shivers and Mia Juan of Ready Roles think bigger: five callers on $5.75 an hour brought one moving company almost $500,000 in paid estimates in a single month.

So, just for example, in July, five of our top data activators have an average, or they got almost 500,000 ROI with paid estimates.

Alyssa Shivers (0:12)

Wow.

Mia Juan (0:12)

And it's just moving, that's just a moving company. So, with data activators, we start off with 5.75, and then they get commissions from every book.

Alyssa Shivers (0:21)

Every appointment booked.

Tommy Mello (0:22)

And you'll watch your company continue, you'll start going up this mound, doing good, and then all of a sudden, it plateaus and falls again. Because most owners I know, they're the bottleneck of their business.

All right, guys, welcome back to The Home Service Expert. Today, I've got Alyssa Shivers and Mia Juan.

They are from Ready Roles, a company that's changing how home service businesses think about virtual assistants. Alyssa Shivers has hired hundreds of people as a recruiter, supported executives as an EA and run her own small business. She lived every side of the owner-assistant relationship, and she knows exactly where it breaks down and how to fix it. Mia Juan has built a community of almost 74,000 virtual assistants in the Philippines. It has over 141,000 subscribers on YouTube. She knows what a VA needs from you and you're probably not giving them. Together, they're going to break down what most owners get wrong about VAs, what your VA won't tell you, and how to build a virtual team that actually frees up the growth of your business. Glad to have you guys on today. It's going to be fun. So Alyssa, most home service business owners share virtual assistant and thinks someone to answer emails. What are they missing and what can actually a VA do for home service businesses that most people don't realize?

Mia Juan (1:46)

Great question.

Alyssa Shivers (1:46)

Yeah, that's a great question. I think bringing on a virtual assistant, the first thing that I would probably do is have that person do those habitual tasks that you're doing every single day, right? That you don't need to be doing has a business owner. So those, and maybe it's just out of habit, you're used to doing them, but delegate that. Delegate those tasks to your virtual. Email management, calendar management, travel arrangements, built in SOP, sending gifts.

You can have your virtual assistant, your executive assistant do all of those things, right? Build in an org chart.

Mia Juan (2:46)

I can also add on that. So with what we focus on right now, it's not just the assistant part of things. What we focus on right now at Ready Roles is bringing in the ROI.

That's how we teach our, we have what we call data activators, and we teach them how to bring ROI to the company, and not just assist them with calendar, travel. That's all the foundational skills that they already have, and we teach them that from the beginning. But what we are focusing on right now is bringing in the numbers and bringing in revenue for the company.

Tommy Mello (3:21)

Yeah. Well, 74,000, that's insane. I don't even know how that's possible.

Alyssa Shivers (3:27)

So we have executive assistants and then data activator role, and then we have a custom role.

So that data activator role, you really want to view that as someone, because I get asked this a lot. So you want to view that role as someone that is lead-generated and appointment set in all day. So like I have an appointment setter. She is managing my calendar, she's filling my calendar, and she's lead-generated. Is she doing that?

Tommy Mello (4:00)

Do outbound calls or back to your customer list or email marketing?

Mia Juan (4:05)

What are some of the biggest ways?

Alyssa Shivers (4:07)

We're using a platform called USA Home Listens. My Home Story. Which is now My Home Story Pro. And with that, that's where they're collecting all of the data that they're using. So they're outbound calling.

And so, with that, it's HVAC companies, it's roofing companies, it's moving companies. It's that's what My Home Story Pro is.

Mia Juan (4:39)

It's what we teach them now.

Alyssa Shivers (4:40)

Yeah.

Tommy Mello (4:41)

So is there any compliance to making outbound calls? Are you doing landlines? Is there like the do not call list?

Alyssa Shivers (4:47)

Yes.

Tommy Mello (4:47)

Yes.

Alyssa Shivers (4:48)

Yeah. And our data activators and our appointment setters follow those guidelines that we have here in the States. That's a really good question.

Mia Juan (4:57)

Yeah.

Before we launch a data activator with a client from any type of home service company, we go through setting up the tools with a client. And one of the things that we focus on is making sure that they have the required terms and conditions on their website when it comes to contacting customers. Without that, we cannot activate their VoIP system so that the data activator can start. So all of those, we check all of those first before we actually onboard the data activator for this client.
