It's September 27th. Okay, big news from The New York Rangers. They placed goalie Dylan Garand and forward Taylor Raddysh on waivers as they finalized their opening night roster. That's a pretty big shakeup for sure.
With these moves, the roster stands at 25 players, but there are some changes coming. Forward Adam Sykora is heading to long-term injured reserve, and he's out for about 4 to 5 months with a lower body injury. Losing him definitely takes a toll on death. Now, the Rangers will trim down to that 23-man limit. They've got 13 forwards, and Matt Rempe and Jaroslav Chmelar have secured the fourth line over Raddysh. That's a solid win for them and a big nod to their preseason performance. On the blue line, they're going with 8 defensemen, including 18-year-old Alberts Smits. He impressed everyone during training camp, earning a spot alongside Braden Schneider. That kind of rookie talent is always exciting to see.
Lastly, Joonas Korpisalo will back up Igor Shesterkin since the team decided to go with 2 goalies to start the season. Gotta love that clarity in the net as they gear up to hit the ice.
