It's September 27th. Okay, big news from the Rangers today. 18-year-old Albert Smits, their first round pick, just made the team's initial 23-man roster after an impressive training camp. That's a huge milestone for a rookie and speaks volumes about his talent. Then there's the competition that took place in camp. Fullwards, Matt Rempe and Jaroslav Chmelar also made the cut, while defenseman Matthew Robertson and Scott Morrow secured spots. Joonas Korpisalo edged out Dylan Garan for the backup goalie role.

It's great to see the young players stepping up like that, and Smits is expected to hit the ice with Braden Schneider when the Rangers open their season against the Bruins on Tuesday night. He's been working alongside Schneider all preseason, so it makes sense. Definitely a solid move to get him some regular minutes right out the gate. Head coach Mike Sullivan had some strong words about Smits. He praised the kid's confidence and defensive skills, noting how he doesn't get outmuscled and isn't afraid to make a play. It's clear they see potential in him, and that's encouraging. So, with Smits set to make his NHL debut, the Rangers are looking to build on their strong preseason.

Fans have a lot to be excited about heading into the new season.
