Today is September 27th. I'm Corey with the story. This is New York Rangers News Today, driven by AI and built for fans. All right, big news from the New York Rangers today. They waved goaltender Dylan Garand, and that decision is raising some eyebrows. After a rough 2025-26 season, New York had to make tough calls, but this one seems risky. Now, here's the kicker. Garand just cracked the top 10 ranking of available players. Corey Promman and Harman Dayal from The Athletic highlighted him calling out his solid junior career despite some inconsistencies as a pro, but they also pointed out that he might just be a number three goalie at the NHL level. That's got to sting a bit for the Rangers.

This move comes as the Rangers look to shore up their goaltending, especially after picking up Joonas Korpisalo to backstop Igor Shesterkin.

Garand has been a developing talent, but waving him feels like a gamble they might regret. Definitely, a bold strategy. In just three NHL games last season, Garand put up 1.62 goals against average in a 9-4-8 save percentage, so clearly he's got some talent when given the opportunity.

The Rangers picked him 10th overall in the 2020 NHL draft, so letting him go could be a big miss. It'll be interesting to see if another team picks him up or if he clears. This whole situation just adds another layer to the Rangers' goaltending puzzle as the season rolls on.
