Hey, everybody. Revolutions Per Movie Live is hitting the road with Erg, A Music War. We're having a live screening of the iconic 1982 film that was shot in 1980, with a presentation by the professors of Erg, which is myself and Chalky, the hosts of the Patreon series, A Very Opinionated Look At Erg, where we've done over 54 episodes talking to various performers in the film, as well as people who helped make the film happen. It's going to be a rare chance to see the film in a theater with actual humans and the film features performances by XTC, The Go-Go's, Gary Newman, Au Pairs, Per Ubu, Devo, The Alley Cats, Skayfish, Gang of Four, The Cramps, Magazine, Joan Jett, Klaus Nomi, Echo and the Bunny Men, Oingo Boingo, Wall of Voodoo, and even The Police. Currently, the tour is October 9th in Boston at MassArts, with special guests Hugo Burnham of Gang of Four, October 10th in Catskills at the Catskills Community Center, again with Hugo Burnham of Gang of Four joining us, October 12th in New York City at the Nighthawk Cinema, with Hugo Burnham of Gang of Four joining us, October 13th, Philadelphia PA at Philomocca, with the legendary John Solomon from WPRB joining us, and October 14th in Jersey City at WFMU's Monty Hall, with again another legend Evan Funk Davies from WFMU joining us. Then we head down to Texas, November 19th in Austin at the Austin Film Society, November 20th in Dallas at the Texas Theater, Saturday November 21st in Houston at the River Oaks Theater, with more dates to be announced. Advanced tickets are on sale now at any of the venues, or via our social media, Revolutions Per Movie. See you in the pit.

And it gives me great pleasure to welcome the Revolutions Per Movie, Jon Daly. Hi Jon.

Jon Daly (2:18)

Hi. What's up? How's it going, Chris? I'm excited to be on Revolutions Per Movie. Let's go.

Chris Slusarenko (2:24)

Yes, let's do it.

Jon Daly (2:25)

I'm super stoked.

Chris Slusarenko (2:26)

This has been a long time in the making because all we were doing was fighting over which films we should talk about, which music films. And we finally got there.

Jon Daly (2:35)

We did.

Chris Slusarenko (2:36)

If any of you have ever seen History Of The Eagles, it plays on the inside of your eyelids. You can't unsee the magnitude of these people.

But there's so much I want to ask you about. I have you here. I mean, music and comedy have jammed together with you forever. I mean, your papa, John Misty, you created and starred in Kenny G Is My Imaginary Friend. And I have both of your records here on vinyl.

Jon Daly (3:07)

Oh my God. You bought my records.

Chris Slusarenko (3:10)

Wow.

Jon Daly (3:11)

Thank you so much.

Chris Slusarenko (3:12)

I've seen you live. I've seen you bring out the sax.

Jon Daly (3:15)

Hell yeah.

Chris Slusarenko (3:16)

Thank you. I mean, were you a music kid? Like, were you in band? Were you in a ska band, John?

Jon Daly (3:21)

No, I was not in a ska band, however my wife was.

And though I've never, I think I've heard one of their songs, but I was never in a band. My brothers were in bands.

They were punkers and they were in, one of them was more like in an indie rock band called Hurl in high school. And they were like really good. And so there was like a whole scene in Pittsburgh, indie rock scene that I was like a satellite of as I was kind of like. And so like, I think I, yeah, so they got me into like punk rock, but I always liked comedy and would get just as many like, you know, my uncle, a big formative thing for me that I've started to think about recently is my uncle gave me all of his old records, like from the 60s and 70s and was like, or you have free access, take, I'm never gonna, it was kind of like, I'll never listen to, you know, I don't care about all this old music and comedy. And so that's how I got into Monty Python, weirdly from their records, not the TV show. Even though I knew the TV show was good, but it seemed sad to me because of the way it's filmed. You know, even though even the animation, I was like, I get, I understand that this is funny. I need something to pop off and this seems sad. But the records were not, and the records got me into it way more. And then the records got me into the movies, which got me into the TV show with that, which was super formative. And then I got like all kinds of Led Zeppelin and just this classic rock stuff, Stevie Wonder, Led Zeppelin, bad stuff too. Yeah, my uncle was instrumental, but my brothers were very like punk rock. And so I got into like funny music, I would say, some of which is good, and some of which is Jimmy Buffett. But I like Jimmy Buffett. I have love for Jimmy Buffett, but it's interesting because the people that we're about to talk to, to talk about, there's not one of them that is funny in any way.
