Israeli authorities are scrambling as an unknown type of flying weapon was just deployed against Israel, probably by Hezbollah. Also, a cluster bomb just exploded on a group of Israeli school children with devastating effect. And there is a general consensus across the Middle East that we are on the brink of another massive escalation with Iran.
So, security alerts were triggered this last weekend in Israel that some kind of a UAV entered Israel's airspace from the north, probably launched by Hezbollah. Then it disappeared. The military confirmed that the device didn't seem to be a drone, and by all indications, it seemed to be using some kind of hot air propulsion system instead. As a result of the launch, defensive measures were triggered in Israel, with hostile aircraft warnings being sounded. But it looks like it wasn't actually shot down. It basically disappeared off of radar.
Apparently, a search has been in motion to determine what this actually was and where it went, but so far without result.
Needless to say, this is concerning. It's always possible this was a balloon of some kind, you know, used for weather or something. But it's also possible it's a new form of weapon being deployed by Hezbollah. Ukraine has been using a weapon for some time now that deploys weather balloons with missiles attached to them. The balloons are hard to detect because they can be launched with hundreds of cheap decoys alongside them, and they can float toward their targets, only releasing the missiles once nearly above the strike location. Some of us have been warning that it's only a matter of time before Israel's enemies start deploying this kind of technology against Israel specifically. So let's hope that this isn't what this is. So, I'm sure the IDF will be following this very closely over the coming days and weeks. And hopefully this doesn't turn out to be anything too concerning. On a rougher note, there is a tragic story unfolding in the Upper Galilee. A religious high school was doing a boys hike on the Redeem Ridge on state-owned land. Apparently, the area they were hiking in was supposed to be closed off right now because of possible unexploded ordinances still remaining from the Iran attacks. But for some reason, there was a breakdown in the information chain somewhere, and approval for the hike was granted by the overseeing organization. On a stop for lunch, several teens found the remains of two missiles, and they collected sub-shrapnel along with an unexploded cluster munition that they thought was a dud. Apparently, they carried these missile parts with them for some time, then at some point, one of the boys unscrewed part of the cluster munition prompting a massive explosion. According to testimony from the students, the explosion was big enough to throw several students through the air. A wooden student was killed on the spot, and 24 others were wounded. Ten.
Seriously.
Northern District Police were dispatched to the scene, which was quickly declared a mass casualty event. One of the boys called his dad right after the blast, and his dad was actually able to walk him through applying a tourniquet to his leg, which he was able to do successfully. According to Emogan David Adom EMT, who arrived at the scene, when he got there, students were doing their best to assist their injured friends. Some were able to apply tourniquets and other life-saving measures successfully. Obviously, an investigation is underway to see where the breakdown in communication happened. As of right now, there are conflicting reports as to who is at fault.
Military officials are saying that the groups were warned that access to the area was still restricted because of the war.
For their part, the Education Ministry is saying that the planned hiking route did not pass through the restricted area the military warned about, and also that explicit safety instructions were issued to the group about picking up unexploded missiles and ammunition. Although according to the students, no stretch instructions were actually given. Although they did say that they did notice a warning sign in the area that they were hiking in, and for some reason that sign was ignored by the group. So, for now, all hiking trips in the area have been suspended for a couple of days to give time to investigate what actually happened.
Obviously, we should pray for the wounded boys that they would make a full recovery quickly and for the family of the boy who was killed. This is a very, very tragic situation. In a second, we'll get into what's happening with this Iran buildup and the possible coming escalation. But first, since October 7th, this patch right here has surged in popularity with IDF soldiers in Israel. It pairs a silhouette of the temple in Jerusalem with the Hebrew word Mashiach or Messiah, a way soldiers and supporters alike carry a piece of Jerusalem and their faith with them wherever they go. It's a durable embroidered patch available in blue and white or moss green. The velcros right onto your jacket, backpack or hat. And like everything in our store, all the proceeds go straight to our volunteer work on the ground in Israel. Get yours, scan the QR code on screen or click the link in the description below.
