Google is giving website owners new control over how their content appears in its AI-powered search features. In a blog post published Wednesday, the company announced it will test a toggle in Search Console, allowing domains to opt out of appearing in AI overviews and AI mode. The feature will first roll out to a small group of site owners in the United Kingdom before expanding globally.
Google said sites that opt out will not receive traffic or impressions from its generative AI tools, though the setting will not affect traditional search rankings. The company is also introducing new Search Console insights to show which pages appear in AI responses and in which countries. Google says it is responding to feedback from publishers and working with regulators including the UK's Competition and Markets Authority, as AI search evolves. The move follows its recent developer conference, where it unveiled a more dynamic search experience capable of handling complex queries and processing videos, images, files and even browser tabs. That announcement fuelled claims that traditional Google search was effectively over. Tensions have been rising between Google and publishers who provide the content powering its AI tools. In a recent interview, Conde Nast CEO Roger Lynch said he has prepared his teams to operate as if search traffic could largely disappear, expecting Google referrals to drop to a single-digit share of overall traffic.

The 2026 Apple Design Awards have been announced, spotlighting a diverse range of games across Apple's ecosystem. This year's winners highlight everything from intimate indie storytelling to visually ambitious takeaway experiences optimized for Apple Silicon. The awards honor 12 apps and games across six categories, chosen from 36 global finalists for innovation, artistry and technical achievement. In the social impact category, the winner is Consume Me, a semi-autobiographical role-playing game exploring teenage anxiety and disordered eating through raw lo-fi visuals and deeply personal storytelling crafted over nearly a decade.
The Delight and Fun Award went to Is This Seat Taken by Poti Poti Studio, a cozy logic puzzle praised for its charming, unhurried gameplay. Pine Hearts by Hyperluminal Games claimed the Inclusivity Award, recognized for extensive accessibility features including customizable controls and enhanced text legibility. Innovation Honours went to Blueprints, a genre blending exploration game noted for its room by room structure and environmental storytelling. In the interaction category, Sargo Mini Ginger's Garden was celebrated for intuitive controls designed to keep young children focused on play rather than instructions. The Visuals and Graphics Award was presented to Cyberpunk 2077, ultimate addition for its ambitious open world and advanced optimization for Apple platforms.
Together, the winners reflect Apple's growing reputation as a platform supporting both creative indie developers and major game studios.
Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas says the AI companies that generate the most economic value from the power their systems consume will ultimately earn the highest valuations. He argues the winner will be whoever delivers the most value per watt per user, balancing accuracy, speed, cost, privacy and intelligence. Srinivas cautioned that high-priced models may drive short-term revenue, but long-term success depends on energy efficiency and real economic output. A key focus for Perplexity is agentic AI, with systems designed to handle complex multi-step tasks over extended periods. To support that push, the company unveiled a product called Personal Computer, an orchestration tool that determines which AI model should handle a task and where it should be processed. The system can route workloads between data centers and local devices like laptops, a shift experts say could cut energy use, improve speed and enhance data security. Perplexity has launched the product on Apple devices and is expanding it to Microsoft Windows, allowing integration with apps such as Word and Outlook. Triniverse describes the strategy as building a neutral orchestration layer that works across different models, chips and operating systems. The company, reportedly valued at $20 billion, faces fierce competition from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google, even as it benefits from advances in partner models. Triniverse says solving the orchestration challenge will create a durable long-term advantage in an increasingly crowded AI market.

A federal judge has ruled that Elon Musk cannot shield Tesla and SpaceX emails from discovery in his lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI.
United States District Judge Mark Pittman rejected an attempt by X and XAI to overturn an earlier decision requiring the emails to be searched. The dispute stems from Musk's lawsuit claiming Apple and OpenAI engaged in anti-competitive behaviour that hurt Grok's App Store ranking. During prior hearings, Magistrate Judge Hal Ray sided with OpenAI, finding reason to believe Musk conducted XAI and X business through his Tesla and SpaceX accounts. Attorneys for X and XAI argued those emails were outside their custody because they do not represent Tesla or SpaceX. The court was not persuaded, pointing to internal records showing XAI's CFO sent company updates and Musk's SpaceX email. Judge Pitman affirmed that Musk's leadership roles across the companies and his use of multiple accounts make the emails discoverable. He also denied a request to pause the production order while the objection was considered. As a result, Musk's business emails tied to Tesla and SpaceX must now be produced as part of the ongoing litigation.
