It's not like someone's coming to a kid and saying, hey, you should cut off your parents, but it is all over TikTok. Hashtags toxic parents, narcissistic parents, and these are all tons of views. And so if you've got all of these viral influencers talking to you, this really freed me. I walked away from my family, and it's amazing. I feel fantastic now. There are situations where going no contact is the right and healthy choice. Historical reasons are abuse, a divorce oftentimes leads to no contact for sometimes just and sometimes less just reasons, mental illness, severe addictions. This is historically why in modern-day Southwest, people have gone no contact with parents.

Yeah, that was the voice of my next guest, Noelle Mering, talking, she was just talking about Lila Rose, about Gen Z going no contact with her parents. Have you, maybe you're going through this. Have you experienced it? I can't think of anything more painful, right? What happens when the people who gave you life become the people you decide to erase from it? And to me, that's dark. You have more and more children are choosing to go no contact with their parents. And some say, oh, you know, it's an act of survival. And again, if there is abuse or there's something, I totally understand having the separation. But I also think that it's a symptom of a culture that has forgotten forgiveness and sacrifice and family.
You know, I think we live in a culture where people go to therapy, right? I mean, I'm not against therapy, but so often the advice is to walk away.
And I'm telling you, it could be very, very painful. What happened to forgiveness? What happened to communication? And maybe, maybe you're going through this right now. Maybe your family has been torn apart. If so, we're going to be joined by Noelle in just a second here. And I'd love you to share your story. You can ask your questions and you can join the conversation. Number to get in is 888-914-9149.
Maybe you've got a son who no longer is in communication because the father and he had an argument or daughter refuses to talk with their mother or maybe they're not letting you see your grandchildren. I hear these stories all the time about how kids aren't letting their parents see their grandkids. That's a dagger in the heart of a grandparents. And then what happens? Holidays become these empty chairs around the table. Birthdays are passing in silence and grandparents are growing old and they're wondering what happened. I've never seen anything like it. There were two recent articles that have really shined a spotlight on this growing phenomenon. I was reading them a little bit earlier today. The Wall Street Journal was one of those. They asked whether some therapists are contributing to the rise of adult children cutting their parents off. And Noelle Mering wrote the other articles for the National Catholic Register. And you can check it out there. And what they're finding is that, yeah, we are in a culture increasingly shaped by radical individualism rather than enduring relationships. Yeah, there is some real bad advice. I mean, some family therapists today are using the word trauma, and they've expanded that term so broadly that your painful memory or that personality conflict you had or the political disagreement, a lot of those recently, right?
That imperfect parenting sometimes is now being called trauma and it's resulted in permanent estrangement. I find this so troubling. I do. No parent is perfect. You know, every mother and father has regrets. I mean, we all wish we could have been a better parent, right? We do our best. Try to raise our, I always say to my friends and to my family, my siblings, that's all you can do is your best, right? That's all you can do. You can just simply go ahead and do your best and then pray for your children. Every child grows up carrying some wounds. And if perfection becomes the standard for family relationships, then none of us will escape condemnation. You know, we all need mercy because, you know, we've all failed. So I want to talk to Noelle about this today. And by the way, she did not write the article in the register that I thought.
She was interviewed about her book, and that's coming out soon. No Contact. I thought, let's get her on today. Let's dive into this. If you're going through it, here's the number, 888-914-9149, 888-914-9149.
