GLP-1's Dark Side No One Warns You. What Rapid Weight Loss Does to Your Face and Skin - Dr. Kristy Hamilton

The Dr. Gabrielle Lyon Show

July 21, 2026

Everyone celebrates the weight GLP-1s take off, almost no one warns you about the volume they quietly pull out of your face and the loose skin you can't train away.
Speakers: Dr. Kristy Hamilton, Dr. Gabrielle Lyon

It's revolutionized plastic surgery, not only in my practice, but across the board. We have never seen so many patients successfully lose weight. Now everyone is coming in, they're losing more weight than they necessarily want to.

**Dr. Gabrielle Lyon** (0:14)
The dark side.

**Dr. Kristy Hamilton** (0:15)
The dark side. It's having implications for places that we may not want to lose volume.

**Dr. Gabrielle Lyon** (0:21)
What I'm hearing you say is that GLP-1s have revolutionized patient results, but also there's a secondary effect, but without any type of excess fat, what's happening?

**Dr. Kristy Hamilton** (0:33)
Patients will come in, maybe they've already had liposuction, or now maybe they've lost all of their fat. Now what we're doing is we're pulling products from these cadaver fat. There's this product called aloe clay. It is cadaver fat, it's been processed, it's been irradiated, and because it's been washed of DNA, you can inject it into other people and not reject it.

**Dr. Gabrielle Lyon** (0:56)
Do you think that we're getting back to the more natural era?

**Dr. Kristy Hamilton** (1:01)
These things are under study and the great news is that all of our studies show that.

**Dr. Gabrielle Lyon** (1:12)
The GLP-1 revolution didn't just change internal medicine, it changed plastic surgery. We have millions of people who have lost 50, 75, even 100 pounds on these medications. And a significant number of them are sitting in plastic surgeon's offices with a whole new set of problems. Skin that didn't shrink, glutes that have lost their shape, breasts that have deflated, and bodies that are now lean enough that there's no donor fat for procedures that used to solve these problems.
Dr. Kristy Hamilton is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Houston who's been operating at the front edge of these shifts. She has invented a new procedure, The Miami Thong Lift, in direct response to what GLP-1 patients were asking for. She is one of only 32 surgeons in the US trained in a technique that lets women who lift or turn to the gym in just one week after breast augmentation.
She is injecting cadaver fat, processed cadaver fat, yep, you heard that right, into patients who no longer have any of their own to spare. She is a phenomenal plastic surgeon. This is what the new era of plastic surgery looks like. Dr. Kristy Hamilton, board-certified plastic surgeon, very dear friend, and I'd like to think of you as the resident expert plastic surgeon in the atmosphere and ecosystem of The Dr. Gabrielle Lyon Show. Welcome back.

**Dr. Kristy Hamilton** (2:53)
Delighted to be here.

**Dr. Gabrielle Lyon** (2:55)
Since you were here last, GLP-1s have come on the scene and completely exploded. You're hearing a lot of GLP-1 face, GLP-1 bottom or butt, and just everything.
Has it changed practice?

**Dr. Kristy Hamilton** (3:16)
It's revolutionized plastic surgery, not only in my practice, but across the board. We have never seen so many patients successfully lose weight and keep it off.
So patients would come in all the time and we'd say, you might not be a surgical candidate. You want the tummy tuck, you want these operations, but we have to get you at a safe VMI, a safe body habitus before we can do these things. Now everyone is coming in, they're losing more weight than they necessarily want to, and it's having implications for-

**Dr. Gabrielle Lyon** (3:48)
The dark side.

**Dr. Kristy Hamilton** (3:49)
The dark side.
It's having implications for places that we may not want to lose volume, like the face. Okay.

**Dr. Gabrielle Lyon** (3:57)
What I'm hearing you say is that GLP-1s have revolutionized patient results, but also there is a secondary effect.
Now liposuction might not necessarily be such a thing, is it? Or if patients are losing so much weight, you do fat transfers. I've heard of fat transfers for the face instead of filler, right? Fat transfers. Also for the breast, probably for the blood, there's probably all kinds of places. But without any type of excess fat, what's happening?

**Dr. Kristy Hamilton** (4:36)
We've lost some of these reservoirs. Patients will come in, maybe they've already had liposuction, or now maybe they've lost all of their fat. A guiding principle in plastic surgery is replace like with like. Ideally, we can use fat if fat in the face has been lost.
Now what we're doing is we're pulling from these cadaver fat products, which is interesting. You hear about the zombie BBLs, things like that.

**Dr. Gabrielle Lyon** (5:04)
No, I haven't heard about that. What exactly is that?

**Dr. Kristy Hamilton** (5:09)
There's this product called aloe clay. It is cadaver fat. It's been processed. It's been irradiated and washed of DNA. It looks exactly like fat because it's a fat derivative. It's processed fat.
