**Tim Miller** (0:12)
Hello, and welcome to The Bulwark Daily. I'm your host, Tim Miller. Before we get to one of our guests, I've got two more favors. I did a favor earlier this week, and the response was overwhelming.
The amount of emails that Katie Britt's chief of staff has gotten about her total absence and abdication of responsibility when it comes to the children that we are keeping in detention centers even though they're trying to self-deport, it was at least noticed.
Unfortunately, Katie Britt hasn't done anything yet. She did go on Fox last night and smear Muslims, but she hasn't done anything to help the people in the detention centers yet, but hopefully that will continue. I heard from some of you that you didn't fully have the names of Freddys and Edgarianna and how to spell them, so I'll put them in the show notes if people did not get a chance to contact Katie Britt's office, please do so over the weekend. My other quick favor is this podcast is going to do great in the algorithm.
The algorithm loves Trump Derangement Syndrome, the algorithm loves My Guest, the algorithm loves it when we talk about Melania having press conferences. We're going to crush.
When we talked to Julia Curlee about a trans woman being fired, we talked to David Wallace-Wells about climate apocalypse. The algorithm doesn't love that serious material as much. If you liked one of those podcasts, my favor for you this weekend is think about a friend who might like it and help expand our reach. The Julia Curlee podcast just knocked me on my ass. If you would send that to a friend who you don't think listens yet, I would consider it a favor. I appreciate you and then now you guys, I owe you all too, so you can ask me for a favor. All right. Today's guest, an old pal, a lawyer. He used to be a Republican. He used to be a candidate for Congress. He's a Bulwark contributor and maybe a little bit more soon. We'll be talking about that. It's the great George Conway. Hey, George.
**George Conway** (2:08)
Hey, Tim. How are you?
**Tim Miller** (2:10)
I am pretty good.
I mean, all things considered. I got my wish. All week I've been saying, if the Natalie Harp discourse leads to an impromptu Melania press conference, it will all be worth it for me. And I got my wish.
**George Conway** (2:24)
I was always there. I was always there. You just found paying attention.
**Michael Cohen** (2:28)
I was always at the White House.
**George Conway** (2:31)
I'm very, very busy. You know, they tore down the East Wing and now it's a military bunker and I'm in charge of that.
**Tim Miller** (2:39)
Mr. Epstein did not introduce me to my husband. Mr. Epstein?
**George Conway** (2:43)
Who is that? Who is that? I do not know. I'm Mr. Epstein.
**Tim Miller** (2:49)
She made her first public appearance in more than a month yesterday. Last time, if you even call it an appearance, was at the World Cup final. She was announcing, it's hard to understand. We'll play it. Apparently, a scholarship program for young adults in foster care, which is an admirable effort.
Partners on the initiative include Fox. So that leaves me a little skeptical.
**George Conway** (3:11)
I don't know why.
**Tim Miller** (3:11)
But she came out at the White House, and I just want to play a little bit for you.
**Melania Trump** (3:18)
Good afternoon. I heard you missed me.
Here I am.
Welcome to the White House. A warm welcome to our distinguished guests today. Mr. President, my father, Mr. Knauss. Education is the one asset that can never be taken away. It is the foundation upon which confidence is built, opportunity is created, and the future is inventent.
**Tim Miller** (3:51)
Hmm.
Her English is not great. I know that, like, it's important that immigrants learn English in this White House. It's an important part of the Stephen Miller. But foundation, inventent, I'm unclear what's happening there.
**George Conway** (4:03)
Her English is better than your Slovenian, so I don't know what you're talking about.
**Tim Miller** (4:09)
She might be non-lingual. She's forgotten the Slovenian and not quite learned the English, so we have a non-lingual First Lady, possibly.
**George Conway** (4:16)
I mean, you know, I don't criticize her for... I'm not going to criticize her for helping kids get education, I guess. But kind of timing, the timing was kind of interesting, don't you think?
**Tim Miller** (4:26)
The timing was interesting. The timing was interesting. And I guess I do have one criticism about the comment. There was the education is the only asset that you can't take away. That's actually not true in a free country. I mean, Donald Trump might think he can take everyone's assets, take anything that he wants from anyone. But in a free country, you have an asset, you are actually allowed to keep it no matter what. So it's just a little quibble.
