Welcome to Fast Politics. I'm Molly Jong-Fast, and we have a great show for you today. Later in the show, we'll talk to The New York Times' own Carolyn Ryan about the signs she sees to tell us how the midterms will go. Then, as a bonus, we have Timothy Snyder, and he's going to talk to us about Trump's increasingly insane rhetoric. But first, we have Psycho Politics' own George Conway to talk about Donald Trump destroying America with death. George Conway.

George Conway (0:33)

Hello.

Molly Jong-Fast (0:33)

Donald Trump is doing to our federal deficit what he did to the Trump organization.

George Conway (0:40)

Really?

Molly Jong-Fast (0:40)

Trump steaks, Trump water, the Trump shuttle.

Are we talking about like bankruptcy? Yes, we're talking about bankruptcy.

George Conway (0:50)

Did you see this coming?

Well, you just, I somehow, I just felt it coming, yes. Let me tell you a funny story once.

Molly Jong-Fast (0:59)

Yeah.

George Conway (0:59)

I was with my ex-wife in Ventnor, New Jersey and we were with this Washington Post reporter, a guy named Ben Terrace. Yeah. And this was 2019

I was just starting, I was off the reservation. So he was kind of very curious about what I had to say and what she had to say and how it differed. And this is, I actually got into the newspaper. She started talking about how wonderful it was. So Donald Trump had been so good to Atlantic City and that he built the Taj Mahal.

And I said, yeah, went bankrupt twice. But anyway, yeah. So you want to talk about the federal debt.

Molly Jong-Fast (1:30)

I mean, I think since it's hitting, since like it's yet another thing in this administration that is breaking records, it might be worth looking at.

George Conway (1:41)

Yes. I mean, it's sort of like the practical things about running a country get lost in all the insanity and corruption. But the way to think about this is that for the United States, I mean, the debt is at a record figure.

And I forget what percentage of that debt? 30, 40, some high percentage of that debt was accumulated by the 45th and 47th presidents of the United States, who is actually just one guy.

And maybe most of it was accumulated by the other 44 or 45, as we can't go over Cleveland twice. But this one guy somehow managed to do most of himself like no one has ever seen. And the problem also is like, we're not like Kimberly Guilfoyle, the United States of America is not like Kimberly Guilfoyle. We just can't call up someone and say, hey, pay our bills, right? You can't just send a single text and say, look, just send the money directly to our creditors. And those look-

Molly Jong-Fast (2:42)

So you're referencing this incredible reporting from the Wall Street Journal owned by Rupert Murdoch, the story of Kimberly Guilfoyle getting, sending a guy, a donor, a Republican donor, wiring instructions to her American Express card because she owed $100,000 before she was going in front of Congress to get congressional approval, to become the ambassador to Greece, a job she was given so that Donald Trump Jr. could marry someone else.

George Conway (3:15)

I mean, we all, every month when our American Express bills come to, we all have someone we text and say, please pay it. Honey, and don't pay for it. And don't write it down because it'll screw up our congressional hearings.

That was actually the smartest thing she said, the little text and say, stop it, you're going to get me, you're going to screw up my confirmation. That was the smartest thing she said.

Molly Jong-Fast (3:39)

I want to point out that I'm not sure how many people have a PDF ready of how to wire and pay my Amex. That's not something that you generally have available.

George Conway (3:53)

You don't have one in your purse? You don't hand it out as you walk down the street in New York, say, hey, by the way, I have some bills here.

Molly Jong-Fast (4:02)

Don't you think the fact that she had that on the ready, one could guess that this is not the first time she's done this?

George Conway (4:08)

But I thought she was a professional. I mean, a professional person who works at Fox News. Yes, a PhD. Yes.

Molly Jong-Fast (4:18)

A person who works at Fox News. A professional person.

George Conway (4:21)

Has an income where she makes her own money. Yeah. No, I don't know. I don't know either.

We're just asking questions.
