Oh my god, it's been a huge morning at the Comm Games. And for those that haven't heard, Lachlan Kennedy, the Brisbane boy, a silver medal in the men's 100 meters with a new national record of 9.85 seconds. And he joins us now on the way back to the hotel. Lachie Kennedy, congratulations!

Oh man, like obviously you've been through a lot, but the emotions of the last couple of hours must have been pretty intense for you. What a day, I mean, we all got up early in the morning to watch you, the semi-final, where you run a great time, you put yourself in the frame, and then the final 9.85 seconds.

I mean, it was almost perfection. I mean, you almost won the damn thing, incredible. How are you feeling?

**Lachlan Kennedy** (0:54)
Oh pumped, man. I mean, I don't know, I don't know. I'm feeling pretty, sorry. I'm feeling pretty good.
I'm pretty, I'm pretty amped. I can't lie. But no, it's been an unreal night, an unreal competition for me. And we're only just getting started. We've got the 200 tomorrow.
And I've got the four by one as well. I think the lads, we're a real shot for gold in that four by one, so hopefully we come away with some more hardware. Man, I can't lie.

Well done, Lachie. And also, can you tell me how quickly this has been? Four years ago, the last Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, were you even running?
What's your timeline? How quick has it been to get to the top?

**Lachlan Kennedy** (1:35)
I was running, I think. I was 2022 Yeah, I was running. I just wasn't running as fast. I was a junior back then. I was running, I think, maybe 10 fives, 10 sixes with my range. So it's been a pretty rapid increase. But I mean, shout out to my coach. I mean, he's clearly doing some wondrous work.

Yeah, no, yeah, shout out to Andrew. Shout out to all my team, you know? I mean, credit to them. I mean, I wouldn't be the guy I am without them. So I'm very lucky.

And it's cool to put it together. Obviously, everyone knew you could run fast, but to do it on the biggest stage in the biggest moment, right, in the wet as well, you must get so much confidence from that.

**Lachlan Kennedy** (2:14)
Hell yeah. I mean, definitely not ideal conditions. I think that track's pretty quick. But yeah, I'm scanning the Uber now.
No, it was good. It was good. It was real fun. I mean, just a privilege to be out there. I'm happy to bring back a medal for the green and go for the good guys.

Yeah, 985 I think you said just to Richo when you got the track, I'm not sure I can run that again. I mean, it's a cold night in Glasgow, wet track. I mean, it must give you so much confidence. I mean, for all of us, we knew you're a great runner, but you were running it around 996, that was the PB, but to 985, it puts you in another stratosphere now. That must give you the confidence to know that when you need to on the big stage, you can match it with the big boys now.

Yeah, I like turning it up for the biggest event. So I mean, yeah, I think that's what I could do. I mean, what matters most is when you're running your best when it matters most. You know, you got to be at your best when it matters most. That's that's the name of the game in Jack and Field.

**Susie O'Neill** (3:11)
Hey, you broke a really old, old record. Patrick Johnson was running, you know, 23 years ago, around about when I was still swimming. And does it feel good to break that? Have you heard from him yet?

**Lachlan Kennedy** (3:22)
I haven't. Honestly, I've got so many messages. I reckon he has messaged me. But yeah, I've got too many messages to check now. I'll get back to everyone eventually. But I'm sure he has messaged me.
My maths therapist who's made to him said he said congrats. So yeah, I've met him a couple of times. He's been a good help for me, always giving me tips and just saying how he believes in me to break the record. He's like, it's about time it went. So he's like, records are meant to be broken.
