Justin Pearson making the rounds for this comment.

SPEAKER_2 (0:33)

You could also say Jesus is gay.

Dan Mandis (0:36)

Yeah, that's the comment that is going around.

Sam (0:40)

I can't wait to see Pastor Manning, the Atla worldwide church up in Harlem, New York. He's a right-leaning preacher, big fan of Jake Lang, he is.

Dan Mandis (0:53)

Oh, yes.

Sam (0:53)

But he also loves to hold black men accountable, especially when they try to speak out on scripture. So I just can't wait for his response from his church.

Dan Mandis (1:01)

Well, I don't think anyone has ever held that Justin Pearson... Well, we know this.

Justin Pearson has never been held accountable for anything in his life. Certainly not for his abhorrent behavior in the state house here in the state of Tennessee. But yeah, he did say this.

SPEAKER_2 (1:17)

You could also say Jesus is gay.

Dan Mandis (1:20)

All right, so now, there's more to that. He's just horrible. I'm not going to be some stupid talk show host and not give you the whole context of that.

Because that does feel a little clickbaity. So let's give you the full context, which by the way is equally as stupid. So he's out in front of his congregation and he's talking about Jesus and all this. And basically what he's saying is that Jesus can be whatever you believe that Jesus is. So if you're gay and you need Jesus to be gay, well then Jesus can be gay to you. And he goes on down and saying Jesus is black and all these other things.

SPEAKER_2 (2:04)

Jesus is black.

We could also say Jesus is gay and any other identity being humiliated. One of my students, Jacqueline Grant, said Jesus is a black woman and she is right. Jesus is a way of talking about God's solidarity with people who are hurt and despised. This is Reverend Dr. James Cone, the father of black liberation theology. And this is in his final book. He said, I wasn't going to tell nobody. Jesus is a black woman and she is right.

Dan Mandis (2:42)

So Joan, I mean, you're far more the authority on these kinds of things than yours truly. Is this blasphemous?

SPEAKER_4 (2:48)

Oh, yeah. Yeah.

Dan Mandis (2:51)

You see what I did there? Did you see what I did there, Sam? I triggered Joan.

SPEAKER_4 (2:54)

You triggered me.

Dan Mandis (2:55)

I actually, I did that on purpose. I'm a little triggered, too. I'm just asking a question.

Sam (3:00)

So it's, again, we come back to, what are the leftists hanging their hat on? It's the intersectionality of oppression. Everything that is not straight and white is somehow under this umbrella of being oppressed by people who are straight and people who are white. And so that's what he's saying is that if you are one of these minority groups that's been humiliated, oppressed, people make fun of you, that's what Jesus is. No, Jesus is hated because he is pure love, mercy and kindness all in one. He is hated, he's not humiliated. There's a difference.

Dan Mandis (3:34)

So you would think that Justin Pearson would know this, but I mean obviously he's got his own agenda, he's in it for the clicks.

Joan Jones (3:43)

Isn't he supposed to be like a Bible student or a... His dad's a preacher.

Sam (3:47)

His dad's a graduate of Howard Seminary School.

Joan Jones (3:51)

Didn't he also go to seminary school?

Sam (3:54)

No, I think he went to some college in Maine. It's like the widest college ever.

I literally, I have spent more time at an HBCU, two years at Tennessee State, than Justin Pearson.

Dan Mandis (4:04)

Okay, but let's make, I just want to make sure that for the record, we state on Nashville's Morning News that Jesus was not gay, right? He certainly was not a black woman.

And whatever else, and no, Jesus, I'm just going to go ahead and go out on a limb here. He was also not trans.

Sam (4:26)

No.

Joan Jones (4:27)

I'm thinking he probably wasn't.
