Your new diet trend is making waves in Washington, DC.

Members of President Trump's cabinet, including RFK Jr. and Vice President JD Vance, and Sean Duffy, are going all in on fermented foods like sauerkraut and kimchi. WSJ explaining, quote, the diet is the brainchild of Dr. Sean O'Mara, who advises his high-profile patients to eat fermented foods such as sauerkraut and kimchi, alongside grass-fed steak, and to abstain from alcohol and sugary food.

David, following recent news, of course, that was Fox and Friends, that was Charlie Kirk there, talking about one of our own guests, Dr. Sean O'Mara, who's going to be joining me in just a moment. I'm going to share some of your emails, and I'll give you an opportunity to tap into him.

My producer, Nick, one morning sent me a link to a Wall Street Journal article, and the article was, hey, everyone in Trump's cabinet is eating, I think it was sauerkraut was the title, yeah, everyone in Trump's cabinet is eating sauerkraut. And when I started to go through it, I realized, hey, wait a minute, O'Mara is the one behind all that. And it follows the news, and I've seen other people, former House Speaker, who lost a ton of weight, a ton of people are on this. Vice President Vance looks great. Have you noticed him? I said to my wife the other day, look how thin JD Vance is getting. Health Secretary Robert Kennedy has always been big into this. Howard Lutnick, the Transportation Secretary, I know, has been doing this because, you're right, thank you, Nick. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. The Transportation Secretary, Sean Duffy, his wife is Rachel Campos Duffy, who sits on a Fox set, and she was often talking about how he's embraced his diet. So what's the diet? Well, it's centered around grass-fed meat and fermented foods, like sauerkraut and kimchi. You might be saying, I don't like sauerkraut. I don't like kimchi. I've had several people say, ask Dr. O'Mara, what happens if you don't like it? Like, I hate it, they say. I can't eat sauerkraut. I don't like kimchi. What do you do if it's so good for your gut biome? The Wall Street Journal, it's reached the levels of this great publication.

They were reporting that officials there credit the program with weight loss, improved energy, reconstruction of their body fat, getting rid of that bad visceral fat, healthier skin, and their physician, Dr. Sean O'Mara, joins me today. Dr. Welcome. It's so good to have you with us this afternoon.

Sean O'Mara (2:57)

Hey, Drew. Yeah, great to be back.

Richard (2:59)

Thank you very much.

Drew Mariani (3:01)

Doctor, your audio sounds a little distant from me, so I don't know if you're close to your mic or if you're a little bit away from it, but I appreciate that. I'll let you get a little closer.

When you saw this article, I'm assuming you knew it was going to hit the papers. At first, when you and I talked about this maybe about a year ago, I know it was on the down low. You didn't want to say anything publicly about treating some of these people. Now the whole world knows. So fill me in on the Wall Street Journal article and how you were able to treat the president's cabinet.

Sean O'Mara (3:32)

Yeah, so the story is a great story, and it is really shared with America. I don't specifically talk about my individual clients, but I'll talk about what the story is talking about, which is their dietary strategies and what you can do to really optimize your health. So the first thing I would say is this is becoming popular and spreading really all across the country.

Not because I think it's trendy. Actually, traditionally, people have eaten fermented foods, but one of the important aspects to this when I work with somebody is to not just get them eating fermented foods, but to get them to stop eating processed foods. So a lot of people will eat fermented foods, but then they keep eating bad food. And it's like having one foot on the accelerator and one foot on the brake. You don't really go anywhere.

So what you gotta do is stop bad food and start good food. And that's what I tell my clients that are working with me, stop eating processed foods, and then start adding in these fermented foods. And to the people that have shared with you that they hate the taste and sometimes the smell of fermented foods, just start little teeny tiny bits of it. So like how small? Take an eye dropper into a glass of like kimchi juice or fermented sauerkraut juice, one drop added to a glass of non-chlorinated water, gets these magical microbes inside of you. When you drink that glass, you won't taste it, you won't smell it, but you get what I call a good infection. For the first time, you're infecting your body with beneficial microbes instead of bad microbes. And a lot of people think that bacteria and all microbes are bad. The truth is probably most of them are harmless, and many of them actually improve you. And that's what we're finding out with fermented foods. When you stop eating processed foods, you eat these fermented foods, you get more of these good microbes. And so people that are doing this, I talked about in the Wall Street Journal article and the New York Times and Epoch Times and GQ and Food and Wine, they're all doing stories about this now.
