Welcome to TYT, I'm your host, Ana Kasparian. And the situation in Los Angeles continues, there are some updates to that story, but the unrest has spread to other parts of the country. We'll tell you which major cities are dealing with protests against Trump's mass immigration policies and what ICE has been up to. So looking forward to sharing those details with you. Actually, no, I'm not looking forward to sharing those details with you, it's honestly one of the most frustrating stories in the news right now. But I'm going to give you the facts as we have them at the moment, some pretty big updates on that. Later in the show, we'll talk a little bit about sentiment toward immigration policy from the Trump administration. Because there's one demographic in particular that is very supportive of what Trump is doing. And no, I'm not talking about white Americans. I know that there's a lot of theories about that. But no, it's a surprising group, a surprising demo, that is in favor of what Trump is doing. So we'll give you the details on that. In the second hour, we're gonna give you an update on the so called humanitarian aid effort through an Israeli and US backed organization in Gaza. It continues to be a bit of a disaster. So we'll give you the latest on that. And there's a lot more. So Wasney Lombre will be joining me in the second hour, as he will for the rest of the week. Cenk is out for the week. He'll be back on Monday. So without further ado, let's get to our first story.

The governor of the California has failed to protect his people along with the mayor of Los Angeles. And so President Trump has said he will protect our agents and our guard and Marines are proud to do it.

The law also says, Mr. Secretary, that the orders for these purposes shall be issued through governors of the states.

You and I both know that President Trump has all the authorities necessary and thankfully he's willing to do it.

There are now more troops, more National Guard and Marines in Los Angeles than there are US troops deployed in both Syria and Iraq. So that's what we're dealing with right now. The Trump administration has deployed US Marines 700 of them to respond to the riots that have broken out in Los Angeles over the last several nights. And Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was on the hot seat this morning as he was dealing with questions and grilling from lawmakers over the deployment of active military to Los Angeles. And it turns out this stunt could actually fly in the face of federal law and cost a pretty penny as well. Now how much money are we talking about here? Let's take a look.

What is the estimated cost of the deployment for the Guard and the Marines to LA? And where's this funding coming from? Will it be coming from quality of life programs that affect our service members or our families if you want to wait till I finish?

Before I hand it to Brynn, the insinuation that we're pulling money from housing and barracks in order to fund this is disingenuous and incorrect.

So the current estimate cost is $134 million, which is largely just TDY cost, travel, housing, food, etc.

**Ana Kasparian** (3:36)
Great, so much for cutting waste, fraud and abuse. $134 million to deploy active duty military, the Marines, to Los Angeles to respond to the riots. And to be sure, there have been riots. I talked about that a little bit yesterday. I'll give you some updates on that today.
But the real question is, does what we've seen on the ground in Los Angeles justify the deployment of now 4,000 National Guard troops in addition to 700 active Marines? I'm going to go ahead and say no, even while fully acknowledging the loathsome individuals, the wreckers who have decided to destroy parts of this city, engage in rioting, engage in looting. Those people are scum, and I have no interest in providing any cover for them whatsoever. But let's not pretend as though the Trump administration isn't intentionally escalating this situation with a ridiculous disproportionate response, given how limited and contained the rioting has been in very specific parts of the city. Now, some argue, who cares if it's limited to specific parts of the city? The riots are happening. No, the reason why people keep mentioning that is because it does not justify the volume of National Guard troops and freaking Marines that have been deployed. It just doesn't, it doesn't, okay? I want to squash the riots and the rioters. I have no problem with that. But in announcing the sheer volume of people that are being deployed in Los Angeles, that escalates the situation that riles people up more. It makes what's already, in my opinion, a pretty disastrous situation even worse. I don't want it to grow, but the Trump administration doesn't appear to really have any interest in calming the temperature or cooling the temperature down a little bit. It's just constantly escalating. Escalatory statements and actions from the federal government. And look, I say that as someone who also doesn't trust local leadership here, right? I'm basing what I'm saying on my own investigation, looking into reports, trying to figure out what's actually happening on the ground as opposed to just listening and taking at face value what our local politicians have to say. Because our local politicians have a history of lying to us about the reality of conditions both out on the streets when it comes to crime, when it comes to a lot of different things. I don't trust them, I don't take what they say at face value. However, again, to reiterate, the riots are occurring. They are small in scale, even though those videos make them out to look like the entire city is in the throes of terrible riots. And if you want to do something to calm the situation down, announcing the deployment of active military isn't going to do it. But nonetheless, the Marines are here in Los Angeles specifically for up to 60 days, or at least until the riots end. And they're also tasked with protecting federal agents and federal buildings, much like the National Guard is tasked with doing. Although last night was the first night in which you can see the National Guard engage with some of the rioters in an effort to provide backup to local law enforcement. Now, in response to the deployment of Marines and National Guard troops without them being requested by local politicians, the mayor, the governor. California is now essentially taking this to the federal courts in order to get them to implement a temporary restraining order that would block the Trump administration's deployment of these National Guard troops and the 700 active duty Marines. However, just before we went live today, it was reported that the courts have denied this request. So we'll see what happens moving forward. But prior to that decision by a federal judge, Newsom filed the request today on Monday, alleging Trump had exceeded his authority and violated the US Constitution by sending military forces into an American city without the request or approval of the state governor or local officials. Now, as some of you might already know, there was precedent for the president of the United States to send in national guard troops without the request being made by local politicians or state leaders. And that was in the case of LBJ sending in national guard troops in an effort to desegregate public schools. Now, of course, it wasn't requested for LBJ to do that, but he did it anyway in order to protect students as they were going into schools in an effort to desegregate them.
