Welcome to The Megyn Kelly Show, live on SiriusXM Channel 111, every weekday at New East.
Hey, everyone, I'm Megyn Kelly. Welcome to The Megyn Kelly Show, and happy Wednesday and an explosive day on Capitol Hill. Dr. Anthony Fauci finally forced to field questions about his handling of the COVID pandemic. So what did he say? Well, here's how it started in the Senate Homeland Security Committee, watch this.
**Anthony Fauci** (0:32)
Given Senator Paul's obvious obsession with calling for my prosecution, his repeated slanderous comments about me, and recently his publicly releasing my unredacted personal diary aimed at embarrassing and intimidating me, the only conclusion I can reach is that the sole reason he is calling me before this committee is to get me to say something, anything that could vindicate his repeated public pledges that I end up in his words, quote, behind bars, unquote.
Therefore, although it pains me to do so, because of the respect I have for the legislative branch of government and my decades-long record of cooperating with Congress, under the advice of my attorneys, I will invoke my right under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution to refrain from answering your questions. Thank you.
**Megyn Kelly** (1:48)
That's right. Dr. Fauci, who's been given a full presidential pardon, pleaded the fifth on the grounds that he does not want to incriminate himself, refusing to answer any, and we do mean any, questions.
It happened over and over and over.
**Rand Paul** (2:08)
Can you explain to the committee why you chose to fund this dangerous research in China?
**Anthony Fauci** (2:13)
On the advice of counsel, I respectfully declined to answer based upon my rights under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution.
**Rand Paul** (2:21)
Were the scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology capable of inserting a furin cleavage site into a coronavirus?
**Anthony Fauci** (2:28)
On the advice of counsel, I respectfully declined to answer based upon my rights under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution.
**Rand Paul** (2:35)
Did you fund gain of function research in other biolabs around the world?
**Anthony Fauci** (2:40)
On the advice of counsel, I respectfully declined to answer based upon my rights under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution.
**Rand Paul** (2:46)
Do you think that the risks really are worth the benefits for gain of function research?
**Anthony Fauci** (2:51)
On the advice of counsel, I respectfully declined to answer based upon my rights under the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution.
**Rand Paul** (2:58)
Dr. Fauci, would you like to at least answer this one question for us today and let us know whether or not you've changed your mind on whether or not the benefits of gain of function research outweigh the risks?
**Anthony Fauci** (3:10)
On the advice of counsel, I respectfully declined to answer based upon my rights under the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution.
**Megyn Kelly** (3:19)
So he was just as forthcoming before the committee as he was when he was running our COVID response, which we now know from his personal diaries involved multiple lies and obfuscation. I mean, it was like, we'll get into this in a second. If you're going to assert the Fifth Amendment, you typically assert the Fifth Amendment on anything because you don't want to be tricked into waiving your rights. You don't want it to be like a landmine into getting you to say something about whoops, I started the pandemic.
But this guy took this to laughable lengths, watch.
**Rand Paul** (3:56)
In the red folder on your table is a copy of Section 192 of Title II of the US Code. Your council has been provided a copy as well. That section makes it a crime for a witness appearing under subpoena to refuse to answer any questions pertinent to the question under inquiry.
Do you have that in front of you?
**Anthony Fauci** (4:18)
On the advice of council, I respectfully declined to answer based upon my rights under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution.
**Rand Paul** (4:25)
Let the record record that the witness has refused to answer whether there's a folder in front of him based on his Fifth Amendment right.
**Megyn Kelly** (4:36)
You mean you could hear the audible laughter and the frustration from Republican senators there, who were seeking to be the voice of their voters looking for any tiny modicum of responsibility to be taken by this man.
This is the man by his own admission who got the schools closed across the country and specifically patted himself on the back for doing it in New York and LA, two of our biggest cities. This is the man you have to blame. This is the man who strong-armed the CDC into mandating vaccines, mandating masks and so on. This is the guy. Just a tiny modicum of responsibility taking.
