Facing the Unknowns in Parenting: God Is With You in Motherhood

All righty, you guys, what if one of the hardest parts of motherhood is not what you know, but it's actually what you cannot know? And I think for the Christian homeschool mom, that unknown oftentimes can feel very heavy. The unknown is not outside his rule. In fact, you guys, the unknown is where your faith learns to stand.
All righty, hey, you guys, I am so excited. Heather is super busy right now, and so I miss her so much. But I, man, I could not, I love him so much. So if I can't have Heather, oh man, there's no one I'd rather have than my hubby. And so I have, no, the wonderful Larry Young with me tonight. I'm so grateful to, just to be able to bless y'all, for us to be able to talk about the Lord, to encourage you in your walks as Christian parents. You guys, today we're going to talk to the parent who is carrying this quiet fear in her chest. The mom who looks at her children and wonders, am I doing enough? The mom who sees the world getting darker and wonders, how can I equip my kids for this? And am I doing all I can to protect my kids, to equip my kids for what they will encounter in the future?
And praise be to God. To me, it's a thing to celebrate. Our children will go on and be their own people. And the Lord has a path for them that's different from ours. And they're going to walk through, they will walk through suffering and joys. Those are going to be challenges. And they get to walk through with the Lord themselves.

Yeah, that's right. And I think that, at least in my experience and our experience being parents, that fear of the unknown is, I think, a great weight that a lot of parents feel, not only in Christian homes, but just in every parent, right? Whether you are a believer or not, I think having that weight on you is very real. So if you feel it or if you're feeling that right now or have felt it, you're not crazy. It is certainly something that is very real. But I want you to know you're not alone. And especially if you are in Christ, fear cannot become the Lord of your home, right? There's only one Lord and He is in control and He is sovereign. And so you need to take rest in that.

Well, and then I was thinking about what you were saying. The reality is that when you feel this desire to control or you know, you feel the weight of uncertainty, it just means you care. And so it means you're doing a good job, mama and daddy. And so, but that's one thing that I wanted to speak to. Sometimes fear feels responsible. Sometimes anxiety can feel like wisdom. But there's this fine line where it's so, so quickly our fear or anxiety can really become disobedient before God because He is, He is uniquely sovereign and we are not. And then a lot of times what we see from Scripture, Larry and I were talking about this as we took a walk earlier. You guys, everyone in Scripture has been called to uncertainty. I mean, if you look at Moses being called to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, total uncertainty, right? Then when Joshua and Caleb take over, total uncertainty as they enter the promised land, then we were talking about Daniel as they were, you know, Jews in exile, and then he with King Nebuchadnezzar, and then King Balthasar. I'm going to like butchered that name.

Yes, Gideon. You know, none of these guys, you guys, he always took, which is so encouraging to me, he always takes like the weakest, most ill-equipped, and then puts them into a position that he would have them to have and hold for his glory and for his namesake, and in fact makes it so that, for example, Moses has a speech impediment. So he's like the least likely candidate to lead the Israelites, and yet he's the one that God chooses. And so, but over and over and over, you guys, if you're a student of scripture, you can be encouraged because God calls all of his people to uncertainty. And then as we were talking and walking, and we're going to get to this, I think it's a beautiful thing because so often in the uncertainty, that is where we find God and cling to him, and remember that we do not have control. Any idea that we have control is really an illusion because we really have no control. We have no ability to protect our kids from disease, from calamity, from all these big huge things. And so it's a beautiful thing. Just know that you're not alone. Scripture is full of people that God calls out of their ordinary into uncertainty to bring him glory.
