All right, everyone, on today's episode of Nothing Major, we are gonna hit Lavor Cup, which just concluded over the weekend, and we have a very, very special guest, an interchangeable member of the Nothing Major podcast. We're gonna be joined by Ethan Quinn.
Ethan Quinn (0:13)
Hey, guys, how you guys doing?
SPEAKER_3 (0:14)
Jack, Jones, Stevie and Sam, got close a few times, never won a slam, nothing major.
John (0:20)
We're good, Ethan, we are good, we're back. We are back, we're back. I got John, I got Ethan Quinn. He is joining us from Fresno, he is up early at 630 a.m. on the West Coast, but we're also joined by Charlie Fox and the team at SIF. So, Ethan, first of all-
Stevie (0:34)
Hold on, before we go, no Sam Querrey, we got a, it's a great time to do a pod without Sam. We got Ethan.
John (0:40)
Yes.
Stevie (0:41)
I, for one, am very happy not to see Sam's face on the other side of the screen.
John (0:46)
Look, we have to give Ethan the opportunity to come. He has been the punching bag of Nothing Major for the better part of like two to three months. So we figured why not just interchange him and Sam, give Ethan a little bit of a chance to come on and defend himself. Maybe throw a few shots at Sam because Sam, that is Sam's favorite punching bag right now in American tennis.
Ethan Quinn (1:05)
Sam loves it. I mean, I feel like there's, I've done nothing that's caused it. He just continuously goes back to it and man, I take it like a champ, I guess.
John (1:14)
So you've been a supporter from day one. I don't get what Sam's big deal is, but we're here on, in kind of unfortunate circumstances for Ethan, like how is the injury, the foot, a bit of a bummer with the start of the year that you had, everything was kind of trending in the right direction. How have you dealt with the foot injury and how the rehab process coming along?
Ethan Quinn (1:34)
Yeah, I mean, when I first found out that I'd hurt my foot, I kind of was, I was still training, I was still playing. I thought it was just going to be like a three week, four week process and I was going to be back by US Open. I was practicing with Fritz and Fritz was like, you should just get it checked out a little bit. My team was kind of saying the same thing, just I looked a little bit slow, which I'm already a pretty slow guy.
So, if I'm now taking split steps and there's a little bit, it's a little slower now, let's get it scanned, let's get it looked at. So I went up to New York and got it looked at and the doc was, right away, I was like, we need to do surgery. I was like, oh my goodness, like what? The first doc I saw in West Palm Beach was like, oh no, you're fine in four weeks, you'll be ready for US Open. Then this other doc I see is like, we need to do surgery. So I was like trying to wrap my head around this whole thing of like, all right, why did one doc say like you're good and the other doc say, hey, you need to do surgery. So, I'm like trying to take this all in, Frank, everyone's trying to like, hey, let's get a surgery scheduled. So I did that, I got it scheduled and I had Patrick Gibson actually, he had the same injury as me and so I was talking with him and got his doctor as well. I was like, hey, just give me your doctor, I wanna send my scans over to him, get another opinion, make sure I'm doing everything the right way.
When his doctor told me like, hey, you need to do surgery on this as well, then I was able to get over that process because I was training, Franco is still training or having me train and I was like, man, what am I training for? I don't know what I'm playing next and I'm doing conditioning on the bike and I'm like, what is this for? I just don't even know what turn I'm gonna play next and am I hurting myself by doing this? Am I not? What's the whole deal? So once I figured that out, I was able to get over that hump of accepting what was going on and then I just did my surgery and now I'm six weeks post-op and so I'm walking again. I was actually on court yesterday feeding a few balls. So it's kind of nice to get just back in that space, being in the court and yeah, so now we're slowly getting back.
