Hi, I'm Valerie, and you're listening to The Beauty Brains. welcome to The Beauty Brains, a show where real cosmetic chemists answer your beauty product questions and give you an insider's look at the cosmetic industry. This is episode 373 I'm your host, Valerie George, and with me today is Perry Romanowski. Hi, Perry.

Perry Romanowski (0:26)

Hello, Valerie. Great to see you, as always.

Valerie George (0:29)

Great to see you. On today's show, we cover lots of questions, including does a shampoo really contain 3% citric acid? Does deodorant work even if you have long armpit hair? How good are sulfate-free detergents? What do you know about albage and the bioprogramming technology? And is the Andalou Oil Free Lotion effective? And are the natural things in it gimmicks? But first, inane chit chat.

Perry Romanowski (0:55)

Valerie, I just got back from a trip to wisconsin, so I'm dragging a little bit. There was a lot of ukulele playing around the campfire.

Valerie George (1:05)

I understand what that means. Yeah. That's your annual golf trip with your friends, right?

Perry Romanowski (1:12)

Yeah, absolutely. And it's strange how I never get better. It doesn't matter how much I play golf, I never get better.

Valerie George (1:20)

And you never use new sunscreen unless you put some new sunscreen in the golf bag?

Perry Romanowski (1:25)

I did this time. I had an SPF 50, and I used it liberally.

Valerie George (1:31)

Wow. What prompted the newness?

Perry Romanowski (1:33)

I ran out of the other one.

Valerie George (1:35)

Okay. Well, that's good.

Perry Romanowski (1:38)

And I just happened to have a little bottle of sunscreen with me in my other toiletries bag, so it all worked out.

Valerie George (1:46)

Oh, that's great. Mr. Cosmetic Chemist is working on wearing sunscreen right now, but I gave him a 30-day challenge, and so far he's doing pretty good, but he seems to always forget all the steps.

Perry Romanowski (1:57)

The 30-day challenge is to use it for 30 days in a row?

Valerie George (2:01)

Well, just to have a good routine, right? You can't complain about the condition of your skin if you don't wash it outside of the shower, if you don't moisturize, you sunscreen, etc.

Perry Romanowski (2:14)

Yeah. Well, you know how I solve that. I don't complain about the condition of my skin.

Valerie George (2:23)

Yeah. We'll see how he does.

Perry Romanowski (2:25)

Yeah, absolutely. And you know who missed me also are all the outdoor kitties.

Valerie George (2:31)

Yeah. What's going on with them? We haven't heard about them in a while.

Perry Romanowski (2:34)

Oh, they're all doing well. You know, some of them, almost all of them, let me pick them up now.

Valerie George (2:40)

Wow.

Perry Romanowski (2:41)

And you know, they're getting to the point where they prefer the pate over the chunks. Like, you guys are alley cats. How can you prefer food?

Valerie George (2:51)

Beggars can be choosers.

Perry Romanowski (2:54)

So now they've got me trained to buy the pate for them.

Valerie George (2:57)

They're like, what is this stuff? I have a question. If you can pick them up, why don't you take them in?

Perry Romanowski (3:03)

Well, I have one cat already, an indoor cat.

Valerie George (3:05)

Well, no, I meant, you know, like, take them in to be adopted.

Perry Romanowski (3:08)

Oh, this is a good question. I think they like being outdoor cats. You know, they got food around. They like hang out in my yard. They're not really menaced by anything, although there's a big raccoon that kind of walks around, but they don't mess with them. Everyone gets along. So I've really thought about this, but I kind of think they're kind of happy being outside cats.

Valerie George (3:30)

What was the cat that was the troublemaker that had like the big fur?

Perry Romanowski (3:34)

Well, that was Puffers.

Valerie George (3:35)

Yeah, where's Puffers?

Perry Romanowski (3:37)

Well, he's still around, but now he's like, Puffers is the, it's his little gang, and everybody likes Puffers.

Valerie George (3:44)

Okay, so he's no longer a menace.

Perry Romanowski (3:46)

No, he's not a menace anymore. So there is one little striper's cat, he's a new boy who came on the thing, and he kind of fights with Puffers, but they're working it out.

Valerie George (3:58)

Well, it's a hot summer in Texas, as everybody knows, and the cats hide in the heat, so we haven't really had a lot of cat action. But Mr. Cosmetic Chemist did see Pretty Kitty the other day.

Perry Romanowski (4:11)

Oh, really? The one that's been missing forever?
