Hi, I'm Perry, and you're listening to The Beauty Brains.
Welcome to The Beauty Brains, a show where real cosmetic chemists answer your beauty product questions and give you an insider's look at the cosmetic industry. This is episode 348 I'm your host, Perry Romanowski, and with me today in the middle of the country, Valerie George. Hello, Valerie.
Valerie George (0:32)
Howdy, Perry.
Perry Romanowski (0:33)
Howdy, you've already adopted to the new lexicon at the state you're in now?
Valerie George (0:38)
Oh, we'll talk about it in a minute.
Perry Romanowski (0:41)
Well, before we get to that on today's show, we're going to cover a bunch of questions, including what is the difference between quick dry and long lasting nail polish? How are acid treatments for hair different than regular conditioners? Is it damaging to wet your curly hair? Should you use anti-accident serums at night? And what's the difference between pure and impure retinol?
But first, Valerie, is the move done?
Valerie George (1:08)
The move is sort of done. So everyone, I am officially a Texan right now. I got to Texas 48 hours ago, where I am not appreciative of central time, the worst time zone, and humidity.
It's like I'm breathing water here.
Perry Romanowski (1:26)
Wait, I thought Texas was like a desert.
Valerie George (1:30)
Not the part I'm in, which is Dallas. So if you guys aren't aware or don't recall, Mr. Cosmetic Chemist moved to Texas three months ago while I tried to find a commercial space to move my laboratory for my existing, a new business venture, which I can't talk about yet. And I finally found a space, and I was finally able to move in once I got all the permitting and that kind of stuff done.
And we had a professional moving company, pack up a big truck with my current laboratory, and I drove out to Dallas.
Perry Romanowski (2:02)
So now you just have your lab in a truck, huh?
Valerie George (2:06)
A lab in a truck, right. So it's good because if you guys have heard previous episodes, I basically had the worst month of my life, and now I have to take a little bit of time off, unfortunately.
Perry Romanowski (2:18)
You know what? I was just thinking of that. Like, instead of a food truck, you could do a lab truck.
Valerie George (2:23)
I think they have those, but they make math, and they might be out in the high desert, at least in California they are.
Perry Romanowski (2:28)
Well, I was kind of thinking it would be like a cosmetic... a cosmetic truck, you know?
Valerie George (2:35)
The lab on wheels.
Perry Romanowski (2:36)
Exactly.
Valerie George (2:38)
Perry, I covered in for you on a webinar this week because you were in my hometown of Akron.
Perry Romanowski (2:43)
I was in Akron, yeah. I was doing a talk for the Lake Erie Society of Cosmetic Chemists about AI and how it's gonna take over all the cosmetic chemists jobs.
Valerie George (2:53)
Ugh, this again.
Perry Romanowski (2:54)
Unless we let it.
No, actually, I don't think AI is gonna completely replace cosmetic chemists quite yet. We still need people to mix things together, and robots are not that good yet. But you know what I did in Akron? I did, well, I stopped at a little ice cream shop there, and then I found a SpeakEasy.
Valerie George (3:14)
Okay.
Perry Romanowski (3:15)
Yeah, so that was kinda, it was kinda cool, so.
Valerie George (3:18)
Well, that's cool. What ice cream shop was it?
Perry Romanowski (3:20)
It was a place called Handles, homemade ice cream, yeah.
Valerie George (3:24)
Yep, I know the place pretty good.
Perry Romanowski (3:26)
You know what I kinda got?
Valerie George (3:28)
What?
Perry Romanowski (3:29)
Because it's fall time, so I got, and I love pumpkin stuff, so I got the pumpkin cheesecake crunch. Oh, it was delightful.
Valerie George (3:40)
I'm anti-pumpkin.
Perry Romanowski (3:42)
Oh, well, that's okay.
Valerie George (3:43)
Well, you know, it's nothing philosophical or cultural. I actually just can't have cinnamon or clove, so for me, everything pumpkin-related is out, yeah.
Perry Romanowski (3:51)
Right, right. Did you know that I grew a pumpkin?
Valerie George (3:54)
Accidentally, though, right?
Perry Romanowski (3:55)
Yeah, the accidental grow pumpkin is.
Valerie George (3:58)
But it was huge. It's like the craziest accidental pumpkin.
Perry Romanowski (4:02)
It was. I just took the pumpkin from last year, threw it in my garden, and I got all these pumpkins, and I actually grew one, so I was very excited about it.
And it's still on my front porch.
