Hi, I'm Perry, and you're listening to The Beauty Brains.

Hello, and welcome to The Beauty Brains, a show where real cosmetic chemists answer your beauty product questions and give you an insider's look at the cosmetic industry. This is episode 327 I'm your host, Perry Romanowski, and with me today, as always, or as almost always, Valerie George. Hello, Valerie.

Valerie George (0:33)

Hi, Perry.

Perry Romanowski (0:34)

You know, I haven't done a solo show in a while, so I think we have. We are always together, then.

Valerie George (0:38)

Yeah, we've been together the last several, several, several episodes. We've been doing pretty good.

Perry Romanowski (0:45)

160 shows today. 161, actually.

Well, on today's show, we got a lot of great questions, and we're gonna be answering questions about cationic surfactants in skincare products.

We'll also answer even more salon haircare questions. Our last episode where we talked about salon products a little bit prompted lots of questions. So we'll answer some of those. We'll also talk about skin pH and these nifty little collagen treatment threads. But first, some of our famous chit chat. Valerie, I saw that the, I think it was the California SCC or somebody was sponsoring something, and you were gonna be on some sort of panel, some show in LA.

Valerie George (1:32)

Well, I have a couple things going on this month.

I am going to be on a panel for the Independent Beauty Association, which is a trade organization I'm a committee member on. I'm on their regulation committee and their governance committee, trying to influence regulation in the United States. But anyway, Thursday, February 16th or 15th, I forget the date, they are going to host a panel with myself and some other cosmetic communicators, science communicators in the industry. So that'll be very fun.

And I'm on another panel Friday at Makeup in LA in Los Angeles. I'll actually be moderating the panel with some other chemists in the industry from a raw materials supplier, a branding company, and one of the chemists from the Honest Company. So that's pretty exciting.

Perry Romanowski (2:25)

Oh, wow. They're keeping you busy there.

Valerie George (2:28)

But you might be talking about my talk for the California SCC that I'm giving on February 28th in the LA area about conditioning strategies for hair.

Perry Romanowski (2:39)

Wow, that's fun. I don't know. I was talking about that panel, that Make Up in LA panel.

You were going to be on talking about science communicators. So that's fun.

Valerie George (2:48)

Yeah.

Perry Romanowski (2:48)

That should be good. And so if you're in the LA area, look for that.

Valerie and I are also going to be in Vancouver at the end of February. Was it the 26th, 27th?

Valerie George (2:59)

We are. Perry is actually one of the keynote speakers for the Handcrafted Bath and Body Guild, which is the DIY association in Canada.

And I will be running my booth for Simply Ingredients.

Hocking my wares.

Perry Romanowski (3:16)

They asked me to speak for anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half.

Valerie George (3:20)

Done.

Perry Romanowski (3:23)

I'm like a human rain delay here. Hey, you know, one other thing. I just wanted to thank the community, really from the bottom of my heart, for donating and helping to feed the porch kitties.

Valerie George (3:35)

The porch kitties are thankful, too.

Perry Romanowski (3:37)

I know. I mentioned last time that I started this porchkitty.com website and also the PorchKittyKrew, a crew with a K, on Instagram. And a few people reached out and actually donated to help support feeding them. So I just want to do a special shout out thank you to Shelby, Maureen and Melanie.

You guys are true heroes for helping keep the PorchKitties fed, fixed and healthy. And if anyone wants to check out the PorchKitties, I think there's like 10 of them now, go to porchkitty.com.

Valerie George (4:13)

The PorchKitties are spreading the word too.

Perry Romanowski (4:15)

They are.

Valerie George (4:16)

They're like, hey, this guy feeds us.

Perry Romanowski (4:17)

We're gonna have to start a PorchKitty podcast soon.

Valerie George (4:21)

Yeah, it'll just be a bunch of mouths.

Do you know, it's funny to use one of your words incidentally, I have been getting so many recommendations for cats.

Stories, cat memes, cat photos on Instagram. And I think it's from the podcast. It's like hearing us talk. And then it's like, oh, this lady loves cats. I do love cats. I wish I could have one. Mr. Cosmetic Chemist is allergic.

And then I was like, well, why can't I get one anyway? I was telling Mr. Cosmetic Chemist about Ted and the PorchKitties. And he was like, isn't Perry's wife allergic to cats? And I was like, yeah, but she let him get one anyway. So why can't I have one? You didn't buy it.
