Hi, I'm Perry and you're listening to The Beauty Brains.

Hello, and welcome to The Beauty Brains, a show where real cosmetic chemists answer your beauty product questions and give you an insider's look at the cosmetic industry. This is episode 264 264, whoa! I'm your host, Perry Romanowski, and with me today is Valerie George. Hello, Valerie.

Valerie George (0:34)

Hello, hello.

Perry Romanowski (0:36)

You know, I always like the shows better when you and I are together.

Valerie George (0:40)

I know, they're so much more fun.

Perry Romanowski (0:44)

Exactly. Well, on today's show, this is an all-audio show. Can you believe that? We had a ton of audio questions in the backlog, and I thought, hey, let's just do audio questions today. So today, we're going to be answering your questions that include are multi-chrome eyeshadows really more expensive, and what makes them work?

We don't usually do questions about color cosmetics, so be excited about that one. What ingredients is used to cause lip plumping, and is that safe to do every day?

Does the keeps.com website and product work to prevent hair loss? And finally, is sodium lauryl sarcosinate really more gentle? But before we get to that, how about some of that famous inane chit chat that we're so famous for? Valerie, I know you had a goal to read 52 books this year. What are you reading right now?

Valerie George (1:41)

I am reading an incredible book about the smells of the universe.

What? Yes, the smell.

Perry Romanowski (1:48)

Is it rotten eggs? Because I was here like sulfur or something, right?

Valerie George (1:52)

No, it's just like the chemistry of smell and the science behind all the odors we perceive in this world. It's really incredible. And I'm also reading a book about textiles called The Fabric of Civilization.

Perry Romanowski (2:07)

Wow, so interesting. You had tipped me off to that book last year about the five drinks that shape society, which was fascinating.

Valerie George (2:16)

Yeah, incredible. I'm so happy coffee and beer were some of them, and wine, and liquor, and water, and Coca-Cola.

Perry Romanowski (2:25)

That's right.

It was a pretty good book. Speaking of odors, I just planted a garden. I got my garden just started, and we got this mushroom compost, and that is odiferous, I have to tell you.

Valerie George (2:38)

What does Porchkitty think? How's he doing, by the way?

Perry Romanowski (2:42)

Porchkitty stopped by this afternoon. Actually, I got rid of him. I have no foster kitties, so all I have is Porchkitty now, and he is deathly afraid of people that I discovered. Even like I look out the window, and he sees me, he'll run away. I mean, I'm not even going to come in. But I've only been feeding him for like six months. You'd think the cat would...

But you know what's really nice about having an outdoor cat that you feed?

You don't have to clean up after it. I don't have a litter box or anything.

Valerie George (3:13)

I wonder if Porchkitty thinks to your house dad.

Perry Romanowski (3:18)

Well, he does stop by my house like three times, and boy, this cat eats a lot. But he keeps the rats away, so that's good.

Valerie George (3:28)

Well, Gladdy's doing good.

Perry Romanowski (3:30)

He is. I posted a picture of him on my Instagram, so if anybody follows me there, you can see that. I am the Joggler.

Valerie George (3:37)

Do you know what this episode is, Perry?

Perry Romanowski (3:41)

No, what is this episode?

Valerie George (3:42)

Yeah, it is our last episode together for our 100th anniversary, which is our next episode. Can you believe we have been together for 100 episodes?

Perry Romanowski (3:54)

That is amazing. This is our penultimate 100 episode.

So next episode is going to be our 100 together.

Valerie George (4:04)

Now, there have been a couple of solo episodes, but really, since I've joined the show, this is the last one and we hit 100 I'm super excited. It's been so much fun.

Perry Romanowski (4:13)

It has been a lot of fun. And I have to say, you know, we pretty much shut the Beauty Brains down until I was talking to you at some, what was that, Cosmoprof or something?

Valerie George (4:23)

We were at Cosmoprof Las Vegas and you were like, I'm going to let it go. And I was like, what?

The Beauty Brains just can't be let go. And we decided to do it together.

Perry Romanowski (4:35)

So that's right. You help bring it back. All right.

Shall we move on to some beauty science news?
