Hi, I'm Valerie and you're listening to The Beauty Brains.

Welcome to The Beauty Brains, a show where real cosmetic chemists answer your beauty product questions and give you an insider's look at the cosmetics industry. This is episode 260 I'm your host, Valerie George, and with me today is Perry Romanowski. Hi Perry.

Perry Romanowski (0:26)

Hello Valerie, so good to see you again. How you doing today?

Valerie George (0:31)

I'm doing okay. I'm on a bit of a three week migraine bender, so that's really tough. Yeah, yeah, not good.

Perry Romanowski (0:39)

Now do you think it's a residual effect of the COVID that you got or is it something else?

Valerie George (0:44)

You know, it's possible. I think it's something else.

And I go back to the doctor Thursday, so that'll be interesting. But you know, sometimes these things happen.

I have chronic fatigue syndrome, which I always thought sounded like a made up disorder until like they told me that's what I have. Oh, there you go. And it turns out like I'm tired and I have all these headaches, but I go back Thursday and I'll get some in-office reliefs. I'm pretty excited about that.

Perry Romanowski (1:14)

Well, hopefully you get some relief. You know what I'm doing on Thursday?

Valerie George (1:18)

What's that?

Perry Romanowski (1:19)

I'm getting my vaccine finally.

Valerie George (1:22)

Oh, that's great.

Perry Romanowski (1:23)

Yeah, somehow I had to call around and I found some back alley pharmacist. You know, you can't go to like CBS or Walgreens. You got to go to like Joe's Pharmacy and they happen to have it.

Valerie George (1:36)

You know what's crazy? Like every state is different, right? Like some people can't get it. Other people, you know, can. It's pretty interesting how it varies by geography.

But that's so cool. You get a vaccine on the week of your birthday.

Perry Romanowski (1:51)

Indeed, yes. I had the big birthday shout out. Thank you so much for the shout out on Instagram and to all the people who said happy birthday. That was fun.

Valerie George (2:00)

Do you know what's interesting? I happened to be, you know, just on Instagram myself on your birthday and I noticed it was National Vitamin C Day and I thought, wow, National Vitamin C Day is April 4th every year. It's also Perry's birthday.

And Perry is not the number one fan of topical vitamin C. So what are the odds?

Perry Romanowski (2:23)

Perry's the number one vitamin C skeptic.

Valerie George (2:27)

Yeah, it was just kind of funny.

Perry Romanowski (2:29)

Vitamin C is great for scurvy. Don't get me wrong there.

Valerie George (2:31)

Yeah, so I thought it was super, I just thought it was a little comical, you know.

Perry Romanowski (2:37)

It is, it is, I'm sure.

Valerie George (2:38)

Yeah, but now you'll think about vitamin C every year moving forward on your birthday.

Perry Romanowski (2:43)

I definitely will. You know what else I'll think of?

I had a mention in a recent New York Times article.

Valerie George (2:51)

Whoa, the big leagues.

Perry Romanowski (2:53)

Yeah, you know what was interesting, because when you get quoted in the New York Times, then you hear from like dozens of people that you know.

Valerie George (3:00)

Yeah, they like don't tell you.

Perry Romanowski (3:05)

I got a random text from one of my friends that said, hey, saw you in the New York Times. Really? I forgot I did the interview, but it was this article about one of the top TikTokers, Addison Rae, are you familiar with her?

Valerie George (3:21)

No, I'm not.

Perry Romanowski (3:23)

Well, she has like 75 million followers on TikTok.

Valerie George (3:27)

Oh, just a few.

Perry Romanowski (3:29)

Just a few. And you know what, when you have 75 million followers on a social media outlet, you know what you do?

Valerie George (3:36)

You start your own beauty line.

Perry Romanowski (3:38)

You start your own beauty line, yeah, exactly.

Valerie George (3:42)

Why does everyone want to start their own beauty line?

Perry Romanowski (3:47)

Well, it was actually a pretty thorough and interesting article. I'll put a link in there, but it's Addison Rae Beauty and in the industry.

Valerie George (3:55)

Is it Addison Rae? Cause I looked up Allison Rae and Allison Rae is a porn star. Am I spelling it right? It's Addison or Allison?

Perry Romanowski (4:01)

You're spelling it wrong. It is Addison and she's not a porn star.

Valerie George (4:06)

Oh, okay. Just checking.

Perry Romanowski (4:08)

She's a wholesome TikToker.

Valerie George (4:10)

All right, very good. Very bad thing to confuse. Addison, not Allison. You got it.
