Hammer and Nigel.
SPEAKER_2 (0:01)
Do you believe these characters?
Nigel (0:02)
They're weird of us.
Yeah, Hammer, the ages just keep getting younger. And it's scary. 15 year old boy. My son's about ready to turn 15 here in a couple of months. This kid arrested for, allegedly, a deadly shooting at a laundry mat in June on the East Side.
Jason Hammer (0:29)
I remember that story.
Nigel (0:30)
15
Jason Hammer (0:31)
I remember that story very distinctively. Robert Dion English Jr. was the individual that lost his life.
And yeah, was shot in the parking lot of this laundry mat. And now an arrest has finally been made. And it's a 15 year old.
And look, I've said this before.
I think if you are charged in a situation like this, your name should be out there. I know it's technically alleged at this point, but if you're taken into custody, then no more hiding behind a minor. People need to know who this is.
Nigel (1:10)
He will be eventually because they're going to charge him as an adult.
I think obviously they should charge him as an adult. We'll learn who this is, and then we'll learn who the parents are. And then that will tell us a lot, I think.
Jason Hammer (1:24)
Well, I hope so. And I hope this family gets justice, whatever they view as justice. I hope that's the case. But man, how many stories are we going to have? Well, we're talking about 15-year-olds, 14-year-olds.
Nigel (1:42)
Oh, yesterday.
Jason Hammer (1:43)
Just yesterday, we had that story of 20 years ago when Blake and Chyna Dickus lost their life. An arrest was finally made.
But when the perpetrator, you know, allegedly did the act, he was 14, 14 years old.
Nigel (2:01)
35 now, 20 years ago. Yeah, he was 14, 15 years old.
Jason Hammer (2:05)
14 Go back just a couple months ago, you had Brett Scroggum, who parked his car to walk over to an Indians game to meet his family and was gunned down in a parking garage here in Indy by a 14-year-old.
Unbelievable, man. Where are the parents? Specifically, where are the dads?
Nigel (2:28)
There are no parents. There are no dads in this case.
Tony Dungy (2:32)
Lack of parenting here, man.
Nigel (2:34)
I can almost tell you, I can almost predict it. I can almost just see it above the horizon.
Jason Hammer (2:40)
Where's the City-County Council at to talk about the lack of parents in the black community? I know Reverend Charles Harrison talks about it.
Nigel (2:49)
All the time.
Jason Hammer (2:50)
He talks about it, but for whatever reason, the city of Indianapolis doesn't want to work with the reverend. They would rather have their overpaid violence interrupters that walk around and don't do anything, as opposed to working with somebody who's actually connected with his side of the community.
Nigel (3:07)
And has a proven track record of success in hotspot areas across Central Indy.
Jason Hammer (3:15)
I don't know if BLM is still a thing or not, but where's Black Lives Matter at to talk about the lack of fathers in the city of Indianapolis? Because that's a big part of some of the crime you're seeing now. When you've got 14-year-olds that are willing to take a life, they've been broken for a while, and that comes from home.
Probably a broken home. Why is it broken? Where's the father at? These are the questions that should be asked, but nobody wants to address the elephant in the room, because you might get called racist, or you might get called some other name.
Maybe we'll have these conversations a little bit later on with Michael Paul Hart. He's a member of the City County Council. He's scheduled to join us in studio. And maybe these are conversations we need to have with FOP President Rick Snyder, or maybe we need to get Reverend Charles Harrison back on the show to find out why the City of Indianapolis refuses to work with him and his group.
Nigel (4:14)
We haven't talked to him for a while.
Jason Hammer (4:16)
Because look, we're all on the same page when it comes to this. Like, I have philosophical differences with BLM, but I would think at their root cause, they would want fathers to stick around in the black community. But you never hear them talk about it. And I'm fascinated to find out why.
The state of Indiana, Nige, making nearly 13 million dollars from these blackout license plates. Have you seen these?
Nigel (4:47)
Have I seen them? I donated.
SPEAKER_5 (4:49)
You've got one.
