Hammer and Nigel.
David Steffanoff (0:01)
You believe these characters?
Nigel (0:02)
They're weirdos.
SPEAKER_4 (0:03)
So let's rock it!
Nigel (0:05)
My name is Nigel, Jason Hammer, right over there. We'll get to the fever game, the playoff game last night here, just a second. Unfortunately, we have to talk about that. But you do remember when people were, surely they thought the Bears were coming to Northwest Indiana, right?
You and I, you specifically, Hammer, kept on telling people, it ain't over till it's over.
Jason Hammer (0:34)
Is that a little Lenny Kravitz right there, Nigel?
Nigel (0:37)
I invoked a little Lenny Kravitz into the opening of the segment, yes.
Jason Hammer (0:41)
As incompetent as the politicians in the state of Illinois are, nobody wants to go down in history as the one that lost the Chicago Bears.
Now, the name was always going to remain. Even if they were in Indiana, they were going to remain the Chicago Bears. But it was somewhat insulting to the diehard folks of the Chicagoland area that their beloved Bears would have headquarters in Hammond, Indiana.
Nigel (1:11)
Even though that kind of thing isn't unprecedented in the NFL, right? Well, no, I mean, the Jets and the Giants, right?
Jason Hammer (1:18)
They go across the river to New Jersey, share a stadium and everything.
But that bothered a lot of diehard Bears fans. But it sounds like there's more and more momentum that despite their absolute incompetence, the lawmakers and the General Assembly in the land of Lincoln might somehow still save the Chicago Bears. A lot of movement happening behind the scenes to keep the Bears in the state of Illinois.
Nigel (1:48)
All right.
Jason Hammer (1:49)
According to a statement, Illinois Governor Fat Pig said that he met with the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and the Bears minority owner Pat Ryan and other top officials in the Illinois House and Senate. And they're trying to keep the Bears in the state of Illinois at the Arlington Parks location.
Nigel (2:11)
Okay.
Jason Hammer (2:12)
Now, Hammond's mayor is coming out going, the Bears told me they were not involved in those conversations.
And what we know about both locations, Hammond and Arlington Heights, Arlington Park, whatever you want to call it in Chicago, the suburb of Chicago, stadium deals have stalled. So we're kind of at a stalemate right now while the Bears sit back, light up a stogie, put their feet up on the desk, and figure out who was going to give them the best deal.
Nigel (2:44)
Yeah, that's my thing. I mean, do you think the Bears are trying to pull a fast one? Or they think the mayor of Hammond is a pushover just because he's the mayor of a small town?
Jason Hammer (2:58)
Or, I mean, let's be honest. Was Hammond, Indiana always just the leverage piece to get a better deal out of the state of Illinois? Because if you've got a better deal over here, it's easier to act like you're walking away, even if you don't really mean it. Like, that's how contracts and negotiations work. You have to have an offer and be willing to walk away.
So we'll see what happens, but I'm old enough to remember when people were printing off shirts, Hammond Bears, Hammond Bear hats, right?
Nigel (3:32)
I've seen those.
Jason Hammer (3:33)
Even though they were never going to be called that, it was always going to be the Chicago Bears. It was kind of a fun troll.
Nigel (3:40)
It was a funny joke.
Jason Hammer (3:42)
All right. So last night, the Fever, their season come to an end. First round exit eliminated in the deciding game three, ninety four to eighty three. And the real reality is, Caitlin Clark was not good last night in a deciding game. What may have been the biggest game of her pro NBA career, WNBA career, Caitlin had eighteen points, but was only three of twelve from the three point line, just four assists, just two rebounds.
So it was a bad night for Caitlin when the team needed her the most.
Nigel (4:21)
She's usually an assist machine. She's a three point machine. I mean, you look at eighteen points and you say, well, she did all she could. But the numbers go deeper than that.
Jason Hammer (4:32)
Yeah. Poor shooting night. Poor shooting night from the field. Just gross from the three point line. And also, might I add, we still haven't received an apology from the announcers from Amazon Prime from when the game was in Indiana a couple of nights ago. Remember, they were real quick to just call everybody that's a fever fan in the state of Indiana, basically a racist, a Trump-supporting maggot, all this kind of crap. And the thing that bothered me the most was the play-by-play guy, Michael Grady. He's an indie guy.
