It is Nigel, Jason Hammer, right over there. A crazy 24 hours in Indie Hammer, especially with the news you probably heard at the top of the hour. A 16 year old girl seriously hurt after shots were fired into a home from the outside on the Near East side early this morning.

**Hammer** (0:26)
So this was around 430, 440 in the morning. So the early, early stages of this Wednesday, overnight hours where everybody should be asleep, but gunfire, according to our news gathering partners at Fox 59, I think I saw this on Angela Gnote's Twitter feed, people were saying six to seven shots were heard in the neighborhood at around 440 in the morning. And one of them connected with a 16-year-old girl who the last time we checked was listed in critical condition at the hospital.
So like drive-by shootings are something we heard a lot about in the 80s. Like if you watch Boys in the Hood or New Jack City or any of these movies like that, drive-bys were always a big part of that. Don't really hear too much about them anymore because so many people have cameras, whether it's the ring doorbell cameras or the flock or, you know, traffic cameras or whatever. Too many people have cameras. You don't see it a lot anymore, but that's what happened.

Or I would say maybe it happens more often than we think.
But because of the frequency, we don't hear about it anymore. Hammer, that's my other. That's the flip side of that coin for me.

**Hammer** (1:52)
Which is really sad. It is.

**Nigel** (1:54)
It is. Especially for some of these hot spots and some of these places where people live with that kind of thing. Every the specter of having your house shot, having a 16 year old girl just just just shot in her sleep. Unbelievable.

We don't know all of the details around the story, and the IMPD says anybody with information should contact them because I don't believe it. Arrest has been made in this yet. We don't know why the 16 year old girl was shot. So before I make this 16 year old a martyr, I just want to put that outlier out there. We don't know a lot of the information, but still drive-bys happening in neighborhoods at 4.4 in the morning, where according to neighbors and eyewitnesses, six to seven shots rang out to shoot somebody inside of a house. Now, the problem with that is, for whatever reason, let's say the target is the target, okay?
Other innocent bystanders, they're in the line of danger here. When you start blindly shooting into a house, you never know who's on the other side of that.

And there were multiple people in the house.

**Hammer** (3:15)
Right. So that's one instance. You also heard in our news earlier, I believe Jarrett Lewis had the story, there was a fatal car accident that took place.
It sounds like somebody was going at a high-speed nige, and they ran a stop sign or stop light, rather.

86th and Meridian.

**Hammer** (3:38)
86th and Meridian, and multiple fatalities took place.
And anybody that's got a kid that drives, and it doesn't matter how old they are, like my kids are 21 and 18, but even if I had a 35-year-old, I still would call him a kid, okay? And I worry about that. That's the thing that I still worry about. When my oldest is working, because he works in our Promotions Department here, when he's got an event downtown, and it's late at night, it's 11 o'clock, I'm on the Live 360 I'm always checking in on him just to see how he's doing. It's like a parent's worst fear that there's some sort of traffic incident that takes place.

You know, you're not going to believe this, but occasionally, I would be the sober driver for my friends.

**Hammer** (4:30)
What?

**Nigel** (4:30)
I frequented 86 in Meridian. Who are those friends?

**SPEAKER_1** (4:32)
86 in Meridian.

**Nigel** (4:34)
I know.

**Hammer** (4:35)
Is it me? Am I the other friend?

**Nigel** (4:37)
You're not the other friend, but this is in my 20s. But 86 in Meridian was a very common place for me to be dropping people off and picking people up at 3 o'clock in the morning. And now you have two dudes dead at the scene, three other men taken to hospitals, including two who are in critical condition.
