Yeah, Hammer, you heard at the top of the hour a lot of big news from some of the biggest movers and shakers in Indiana and politics. Governor Braun and Attorney General Todd Rakita, both in the news, both having to kind of do with the same thing. Mike Braun ending Indiana's race and sex-based contracting preferences.
These sex-based, race-based contracting preferences have been around since the early 80s, basically saying that state contracts should be awarded based on merit and not race and or gender. Imagine that. That's the very definition of DEI, by the way.

**Hammer** (0:42)
It is. And this was supposed to already be gone. Like, that's one of the things that Governor Braun ran on, is when I get into power, all this DEI crap, it's gone. It's bye-bye. And Mike Beckwith, his lieutenant governor, was the same way.
But it feels like a lot of that never really took place.

**Nigel** (1:05)
No, it didn't. If you were a contractor, if you were a business wanting a government contract and you had too many cranks working for you.

**Hammer** (1:13)
Uh-oh.

**Nigel** (1:13)
Nope.
Sorry. Too many cranks, too many whities, can't work. We're not going to give you that contract because you don't fulfill the requirements of having, you know, race and minorities. Not going to happen that way anymore. It's going to be merit.

**Hammer** (1:28)
And the whole DEI thing is still very much alive and well in Indiana. You look at some of these colleges and what they're looking for when they're taking applicants or, you know, when they're passing out grants. It's a big part of the process here. So I'm glad that something is finally being done. Governor Mike Braun ending Indiana's race and sex based contracting preferences, which is different than what some other private industries can do when it comes to hiring or passing out scholarship or grant money.
This is following what the Attorney General Todd Rakita did. Now you may have heard in the news a little bit earlier, but Attorney General Todd Rakita says part of the state's minority and women business enterprise program violates the United States Constitution's Equal Protection Clause. So he had a press conference a little bit earlier.
Now this program that we're talking about was created in 83, sets goals for awarding state contracts to minority and women owned businesses, specifically minority and women owned businesses. So let's say that you are a very well qualified dude and you're white, sorry.

That's a double whammy right there.

Can't help you. The Attorney General, Todd Rakita, says these requirements are unconstitutional because they get preference based on race or sex.

Of course.

Not marriage.

**Nigel** (3:08)
Of course. DEI, ladies and gentlemen.

**Hammer** (3:11)
They cited this under the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States.

I mean, imagine just working all your life, building up your own small business, and it's down to you and another company. And like the government says to you, you know, we're going to pick you, but you know what? You're just, you're one white person too many, okay?

**Hammer** (3:34)

And that's what they're deciding, how they decide to hand out government contracts. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. That's called DEI. That's called woke.

**Hammer** (3:45)
And it has nothing to do based on your merits. And merit is the key word here, because I've heard people say, but wait a minute, there are still special exemptions for military workers or folks with a military history.
Well, yes, that's something in your work history that falls into the merit category here. Like you weren't born a military member. You're born white or black or a boy or a girl. Those are the things we're talking about here.

Well, you left out a bunch of other, you know, boy and girl. Come on.

So Governor Braun in the news, AG. Todd Raghida in the news, also in the news, friend of our show, FOP President Rick Snyder. He's the head of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 86 here in Indy.
He wasn't very happy that that crime summit that took place at Gamebridge Fieldhouse a couple of weeks ago. If you remember, this was spearheaded by boss Hogsett and Carmel's mayor, Sue Fincombe. Now, she had gone to the press like a week or so earlier and said, we're having a little bit of a problem up here in Carmel of the Indianapolis residents coming up here and creating a ruckus. I'm paraphrasing.
