Epic reportedly delayed its Disney video game so it can be made using more AI.

Meta says it's caught up to the frontier with its latest Wonder AI models.

And Norway find a Microsoft subsidiary for misusing Grindr user data.

It's Tuesday, October 13th. And here's a quick look at some of the news happening in the sphere of tech this morning from Engadget.

Epic Games is going all in on AI for game development. The studio has been working on games for Disney, but sources told Bloomberg that its upcoming release has been delayed in order to use more AI for its creation. The publication reported that one of the game's directors informed the team that the project would be adopting an AI-first production plan. No more handwritten code, the internal message stated, as well as ordering all art for the project to be generated with full AI workflows. The publication's sources said this new approach was not universally well-received by the devs, with some employees allegedly hoping that the request was not totally serious. However, Epic Games has already been pushing a lot of generative AI tools into its Unreal Engine platform this year, so the directive seems pretty real. Epic's communications director Jake Jones said, We are embracing AI-accelerated development led by Epic developers who are the visionaries and creative drivers for everything we do.

Disney announced a hefty investment of $1.5 billion into Epic back in 2024 While several Disney-owned characters have appeared as Fortnite skins over the years, this deeper collaboration was aimed at creating a games and entertainment universe. Earlier this year, it was rumored that the developer's most promising project for Disney was an extraction shooter a la Arc Raiders. That game was purportedly due to launch in November, although Bloomberg's latest report was that the date had been pushed back to March even before the new AI mission was given. According to GDC's annual survey, a growing number of devs see gen-AI as bad for the business. 52% said the tech was bad for the industry in this year's survey, up from 30% in 2025 The survey also revealed that while many in gaming do use gen-AI tools, it is primarily for tasks such as research and programming, rather than asset creation.

After spending more than a year and tens of billions of dollars rebuilding its AI efforts, Meta says that it has caught up with the Frontier. The company introduced its two latest AI models, Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full. According to Meta, the models are particularly adept at navigating legal, financial and health related tasks and are able to deliver frontier coding performance. Both models also add active memory and active focus, which Meta says will help people accomplish more over long periods of time. Now that's notable, because Meta says it plans to bring Wonder to its personal agent Muse, beginning with paid subscribers. Active memory, according to the company, is the ability to carry what matters to you across conversations and bring back the details that are relevant to the task at hand, while active focus will allow an agent to keep working toward your goal when a task gets hard. The models are a notable milestone for Meta, which has said it expects to spend as much as $145 billion this year to fuel its ambitious AI plans. In an interview with the Financial Times, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that getting to this point both required a large amount of compute and investment, and a lot of very rigorous scientific work from the company's intelligence team. The new models are rolling out now to subscribers. Muse Wonder is available via Meta's API and in Muse Code. It's priced at $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens. Muse Wonder Full is available to people who subscribe to the $50 a month power usage or $200 a month maximum usage tiers of Muse Code.
