Welcome to another episode of Crawfordsville Connection, the City of Crawfordsville's weekly podcast that comes out every Monday morning. I'm your host, Sarah Sommer, and I'm joined in the studio every week with Mayor Todd Barton to keep our community up to date on current events, city workings, and to hear from community members on a variety of topics. Thank you so much for joining us, and we hope you enjoy the show.

Welcome back to another episode of Crawfordsville Connection. I'm your host, Sarah Sommer, and today I'm joined in the studio by Mayor Todd Barton.

Todd Barton (0:42)

Hello.

Brandi Allen (0:42)

Hello.

Sarah Sommer (0:43)

How are you?

Todd Barton (0:43)

I'm good.

Sarah Sommer (0:44)

Good. And with us today, we have Brandi Allen.

Brandi Allen (0:46)

Hello.

Sarah Sommer (0:47)

Hello. It is the general update this time.

Todd Barton (0:49)

It is the general update this time, yeah.

Sarah Sommer (0:50)

Yeah. So two weeks in a row, we've got some good information. And all the information. Last week, we did some FAQs. He answered some things for people.

Todd Barton (1:01)

And I heard some feedback on that. Good. People listen. People listen. That's what we like.

Sarah Sommer (1:06)

And this week, our general update for any new listeners is a monthly update where we go over things A to Z happening in our community.

Todd Barton (1:16)

Some things that we talk about a lot, some new things. Yeah.

Sarah Sommer (1:19)

Yes. So, you know, this is kind of our opportunity to update on those projects that people might see happening, but don't always know. And again, this is just another way we're transparent and like to share what we've got going on.

Todd Barton (1:34)

It's all right there.

Sarah Sommer (1:35)

Yes. Well, before we get started, do you have any announcements?

Todd Barton (1:39)

I have a couple. I will have my community forum for October. On October 26th, that's a Monday, from four to five p.m. at Pike Place.

I know that's starting to get risky outdoors late October, but we're going to try it. After that, we'll probably move indoors. But Monday, the 26th, four to five p.m. at Pike Place, as always, if there's an weather issue, we will post on our social media to where it's being moved.

Sarah Sommer (2:05)

Yes.

Todd Barton (2:06)

And then I want to remind people that Monday, October 12th is Columbus Day, and that is a city holiday, so there'll be no trash pickup.

And the city council meeting would normally be that night. It'll be moved to Tuesday. And the trash pickup will also be moved to Tuesday. So everything moves from Monday to 12th to Tuesday the 13th.

Sarah Sommer (2:28)

Perfect. And we'll just jump right in. Let's talk about activity level in our community.

Todd Barton (2:34)

Yeah. I know this sounds like a broken record. I get it, like, and everybody says they're busy, but I'm telling you, like, it is, there is a lot going on right now. There's, there has been for a long time, and it just continues. So, yeah, I mean, we're in a good spot, and a lot's happening, and the momentum is on our side on many different fronts. And I think for us as the city and as a city team, you know, it's good, because we've worked hard to get to this point, and we're there.

I think that probably the only thing I would throw out there is just for everyone to understand, like, it's incredibly busy, and the schedule is incredibly busy. I take very, it's very rare that I even get a day off.

If it takes a while for me to get to you on something, it's not that I'm, I'm not just sitting here, you know? I think so. Waiting for something. There are people in the community that think that, and I understand that many years ago, that's kind of how it played out. You know, the mayor was just kind of here, and that's not the case today. You have got so much going on. Like, if you call, you're probably not gonna get me. I'll just tell you. I'll try to call you back within a reasonable amount of time. Email's best. If you just stop in and wanna see me, you might get lucky, but it's doubtful, right? I'm usually booked in a meeting somewhere, some place, doing something. So anyway, my point is there is a lot going on. It's really good, though. It's all good stuff. Well, for the most part, it's all good stuff and a lot of momentum in our community, which is exactly where we want to be. And there are other communities with a lot of momentum, and there are some without much momentum, and we want to be one of the ones with momentum.
