You're listening to The Young Turks, the online news show. Make sure to follow and rate our show with not one, not two, not three, not four, but five stars. You're awesome. Thank you.
Welcome to The Young Turks, Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian with you guys. So, lots to get to today, including the riots that are happening in France, the endless war that we are promised now on tape. We'll show you the tape of the people in charge telling you the wars are never going to end. And then we're going to talk to a US journalist who was detained by the IDF and now has information on whether our government cared or didn't care. And so all that is super interesting. But, I wanna start with something completely different.
So a group of Palestinian children in Gaza did a video that made me cry. And I couldn't quite believe it and it's amazing, so I wanted to share it with you guys.
SPEAKER_2 (6:32)
Do you not see the starving children?
SPEAKER_3 (6:34)
We hope our message reaches you, Ana Kasparian.
SPEAKER_4 (6:38)
We tell you, Ana, Gaza is really flooded by the ground.
SPEAKER_2 (6:41)
But we are here in Echoes Of Survivors.
SPEAKER_5 (6:44)
Want to tell you, we still have hope.
SPEAKER_6 (6:46)
To make our sound reach you and the whole world.
SPEAKER_7 (6:49)
To retain life and talk together.
SPEAKER_1 (7:01)
That's amazing. Look, it's about Ana, but I will tell you, I would say that it makes both my career and Ana's career worth having.
If we were for a nanosecond, a voice for the voiceless, then everything else is worth it. And so seeing those kids in the rubble, just reaching out for one person, in this case, Ana, and thanking them for their help. But the most important part of the message is, they're still there, guys, and they still have hope. And they're still waiting for the whole world to show up to help them and save them.
It hasn't happened yet, but look, I'm super proud of Ana. And I'm super proud of the fight she's got on this issue. And for those who are angry at her for representing those kids and anybody in Gaza.
SPEAKER_2 (8:01)
I don't care about them at all.
SPEAKER_1 (8:02)
Yeah, I'm here for the fight. So I'm happy to, it's the honor of a lifetime to fight back on their behalf.
SPEAKER_2 (8:10)
I have mixed feelings, and I just, sorry, I really don't want to cry on air. But on one hand, I feel so unbelievably honored by what they did.
But at the same time, I'm so sick of feeling powerless to change it. I'm so sick of it. And I'm sick of, I feel honored, but sometimes you see the kids surrounded by complete and utter destruction that my tax dollars paid for. And it makes me so angry.
SPEAKER_1 (8:45)
Yeah, so I think the people in power here in America are underestimating the rage that's building.
And it isn't just because we're tired of seeing kids killed in front of our eyes and then told that if we don't pay for it, somehow we're bigoted. No, it's the exact opposite. If you don't mind those kids that are currently in danger, the ones that have already been killed, the ones that have lost limbs, there's definitely a bigot in the equation. And if you say that's no big deal, you're a bit of a monster. So yeah, and unfortunately so many people in the West have been told to be quiet. And that the supporters of Israel will be greatly offended if you commission their crimes.
No, we're not going to listen to any of that. We don't care if the people committing a genocide are offended. We care about protecting innocent lives. And it's past time for the whole world to care. And to Ana's point, what are we doing here, guys? Three quarters of America doesn't want the war with Iran.
Two thirds of America don't want to support Israel anymore and don't want to send any more money or bombs to hurt those poor kids. But the great majority of our country is constantly ignored.
Why are they ignored in a so-called democracy? And a very important question that makes the elites very uncomfortable here in America, which is, so who's actually in control?
If three quarters of our country is irrelevant, if our voters don't want to do this, and they're actually in psychological and emotional pain to see their money being taken from them and being given to a country to hurt these kids.
And yet our leaders and our media says, we don't care about you. We don't care about the Palestinian people. We don't care about the kids in Gaza or the West Bank or Lebanon or Iran. We don't care about any of you. But most especially, we don't care about the American people. We don't care what you think. We don't care if you don't want war. You are always going to get war and we are always going to finance the abuse and the slaughter of the Palestinians. There's something deeply wrong in our governments. We are not in charge. These are not democracies. If they were, they would listen to the overwhelming majority of their people. And last thing I'll leave you with is hope. Because yeah, it's super hard under these circumstances to have any hope at all. But there is going to be a presidential election in this country. And I don't know how long they can contain two-thirds to three-quarters and growing every single day of discontent. We can't take this anymore. Deep immorality in our name, and I want those kids to know, the American people are actually good hearted and on your side now. That's a giant change from the last couple of years. We are now totally on your side. Our job is to get past our corrupt politicians and our corrupt media to take our government back to free America. So we no longer do this type of immorality, and we come to actually help you rather than hurt you. So I- Yeah.
