It's October 4th. This is New York Rangers News Today, your AI-powered team coverage. All right, big news for the New York Rangers. They're off to a strong start in the 2026-27 season, and it looks like general manager Chris Drury's off-season moves are paying off.

The energy around the team is high, and fans are feeling good about it. One of the standout stories is goalie Dylan Garand. Many were curious if he would back up Igor Shesterkin, but that changed with the trade for Joonas Korpisalo.

Now that Korpisalo is on injured reserve, Garand is stepping up and fans are rallying behind him. He's quickly becoming a fan favorite. Garand's recent shutout against the Detroit Red Wings was a real statement. It's not just any win, it's a shutout. He made 22 saves and showed he can handle the big stage. The crowd at Madison Square Garden was all in, celebrating him like he's the next big thing. You know how New York sports fans get, they love you hard or they turn on you quick.

This performance is just the latest chapter in Garand's rising story. He had a solid showing in his three games last season, which obviously helped build the hype coming into this year. With Korpisalo sidelined, the pressure's on Garand to keep it going and fans are here for it. So it's going to be interesting to see how he develops this season. If he continues to shine, it's going to raise some serious questions about the goaltending situation. For now, it's clear the Ranger fans have found their new hero in Garand.
